Disney has confirmed that big changes are coming to the Fox film division, including word that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is inheriting Fox’s comic book heroes like the X-Men franchise.

Disney is also axing the majority of the existing Fox film development slate and refocusing output, after the studio posted a $170 million operating loss in Disney’s fiscal third quarter.

James Cameron’s sequels to “Avatar” will proceed, as well as a continuation of the “Planet of the Apes” series (no new film in that series has been announced since the release of 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes”). Iger also said indie label Fox Searchlight will continue on its current trajectory and also make movies for Disney Plus. Overall, Fox’s film divisions will pare back the total number of releases, he said.

Upcoming movies like Ford v Ferrari, West Side Story, and Woman in the Window will represent the end of an era for Fox it looks like. At least Fox Searchlight will still carry on.

Can they scrap all that other stuff too and remake the new star wars trilogy while they are at it?

Why? The last one was a pretty definitive conclusion.

Oh well. This pretty much happens every time a major change in management happens at a studio.

Disney is basically deciding to cut their losses early rather than dumping stuff done by the previous management to fail in theaters.

The late 80s slate of movies from Columbia Pictures comes to mind, as they dumped Adventures Of Baron Munchausen and a number of other pictures unceremoniously (110 prints sent to theaters vs 400 for an average “Art house” film) because they had been brought to the studio by outgoing executive David Putnam.

Munchausen co-star Robin Williams explicitly compared it to a new male lion taking over the pack and killing all the cubs aired by the previous male lion.

Deadpool should stick to his own R-rated movies with an occasional cameo in a MCU film. No big roles.

Neutering the character to try and shoehorn him into MCU stuff is just going to kill the golden shite-talking goose.

The three recent films are prequels to the actual story. This series hasn't even got to the Pierre Boulle novel.

The first franchise blew up the entire planet. Then had two of the best films in the series.

They've already shown that the Icarus spacecraft was launched and is missing. We're set to go for the next trilogy.

If they make Deadpool PG 13 that defeats the entire purpose. It’s amazing some of the decisions these execs make.

Hopefully they're making room for more CGI/Live remakes of Disney animated classics.

He needs to parlay this into leverage for the green lighting of the other two Alita movies.

I mean It’s one thing to keep making Deadpool stand-alone movies

But they’d have to figure out if they can bring him into the MCU.

What’s crazy about comic book movies is that like comic books I sorta just expect them to keep making them forever.

And that’s not really realistic.

To be fair to Disney, Fox execs tried to do the same stupid shite when the first film was greenlit and screwed with its budget because they (cast and director) insisted on a hard R rather than a PG13.

IIRC, those same execs pushed the Josh Trank version of Fantastic Four hard as what a comics movie should be. We all know what the results ended up being of those two films.

100% agree

Would be funny for him to have a cameo and get bleeped then go on a 3 minute rant about pg-13 movies.

They tried to have debates? Because that's all we know. They may be debating whether Deadpool should just have his R rated movies and not crossover into others. Which is a totally different discussion from making Deadpool R or PG.

You have any names?
Which execs are you referring to? Because Fox production head Emma Watts was the one that Trank's camp blamed for sabotaging him and she's also named as one of the people that possibly leaked the Deadpool test footage that resulted in the movie being greenlit. Green Lantern came out and Fox lost faith in Reynolds. The thinking is that Miller or Reynolds, with the unspoken permission from Watts or another Fox exec (so they wouldn't get sued), released that test footage.

Don't let facts get in the way of an irrational Disney hate fest.

King’s man is still happening as filming has concluded. Anything not already filming or filmed outside of what was on that list is scrapped.
