I always thought a missed opportunity for an Alien movie was to have it set between Alien and Aliens, at the mining colony where we ended up with the lone survivor, Newt. Seems to me every Alien movie has the humans winning and a good change would show what would happen when the Xenomorphs run loose and win.
Agreed. would loved to see the fall of Hadley's Hope or the colony in Romulus.....would've been a much bigger, longer and more expensive film (or a mini series) but having the setting stay on the Jackson Star colony and see a colony slowly get over run could have been interesting.

There's a decent EU book about the infestation of Hadley's Hope. It's called River of Pain I think.

We have to stop with the prequels. All prequels suck.

Yeah, I mean, it is a movie about monster space aliens, I'm not all that bothered by suspended logic in such films. It obviously isn't a perfect movie, but it was entertaining, and exciting.
I’m not bothered by suspending logic in the alien franchise either, but I’d rather it be entertaining and exciting without all the cringe callback scenes whenever they could cram one in. And the alien hybrid thing in this one just made it worse at the end.
The best thing about this movie was the kid that played the android. I thought he did a really good job apart from them making him say “get away from her you bitch.” That was absolutely awful

Oh what a change in perspective after all this time. People hated 'the Newborn' in Alien Resurrections but is gaga over the new 'the Baby' in Romulus.

As someone who really disliked Prometheus and thought Covenant was near laughably bad....
This was pretty solid. Definitely 7.0/10. I wouldn't say alien is back, but this is a nice step forward.
And yes, the human hybrid in 4 (which i have a soft spot for as I really dig jeunets style) was better. But this wasn't bad.

Event Horizon remake or sequel too.
Omg yes
That dude might actually succeed in creating a real gate to another dimension while filming a remake of Event Horizon. He's that nuts. So no, let's not do that

I finished this last night. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t particularly good either.
But it was definitely better than Covenant (and not as good as Prometheus).

Just watched it, thought it was about a 7.5 out of 10. A little too much outright action - I would have preferred more slow burn.
There were however just a ton of cool ideas - one of which was the rings around the planet that were looming the whole time. I thought the station's collision with it were graphically great.
I actually thought the Ian Holm AI was the perfect level of uncanny valley. The black dude did a good job of seeming AI too - did they use effects at all to assist him with that?

Both Covenant and Romulus end without the good guys really winning
The black goo is on board the ship in Romulus—that’ll end the world. And David takes control of the ship in Covenant. They fall into cryosleep with him standing over them

I hate when these movies introduce hybrids and I haven’t seen Romulus, but I couldn’t imagine anything being worse than Resurrection’s hybrid.

They’ve been doing hybrids in this series since alien3. The scene where she throws her blood against the wall and sucks her own kid into space is the most emotional death in the entire series
I do like how they heavily borrowed from Prometheus in this movie though the creature design could’ve been better

It was good but I thought it would've been much better.
Prometheus and covenant were better.
The black actor that played the robot was awesome.

I agree with this review. Romulus was an enjoyable experience. The Andy actor delivered a phenomenal performance. The film felt like a blend and homage of both Alien and Aliens. That said, Romulus leaned more heavily into traditional horror, with intense scenes like the facehugger chamber, the acid drip kill, the gruesome inner-jaw attack, and the creepy hybrid. The crash sequence was visually stunning and would have been better in the theater.
On the downside, the CGI used for Ash was both distracting and unnecessary. The miners introduced early on were irritating rather than sympathetic, which undermined their narrative weight. Additionally, the pacing felt inconsistent — a slow buildup followed by a sudden, nonstop sequence of events, even without a clear urgency in response to the countdown. The rhythm just felt slightly off.
7.6/10
