I really want to find a group of people to play the Alien RPG with.

I'm really surprised they haven't made an Alien movie in the vein of Dead Space 2 or 30 Days of Night. Where a horde of Xenomorphs invade a colony/city of thousands that are basically unequipped. This kind of happened before Aliens but I'd love to see an actual movie surrounding it and not just space marines and Ripley discovering the aftermath of an attack.

Basically, I want a prequel of Aliens and it's feasible with Andy and Rain. They're going to a different colony/city at the end of Romulus.

That’s why I’m a bit disappointed in Romulus because that’s what I thought this movie would be. I saw a snippet that made me think that’s what it is.

If you want a partial bit of that, go play Alien Isolation which is the fall of a 500 person space station. It’s a bit after the fact but still a huge body count

I also thought there was some odd timing things. I think the movie could have taken place over a longer period of time and kept up the pace and tension.

I think if the movie would have played out over 36 hours, that would be even more horrifying instead of a quick 40 minutes

Just saw it tonight and had a similar thought I was going to share and saw your post. Overall I liked it, but.

When the countdown updated to the faster time from 36 hours, I marked the time on my phone. As we know, it's a long running joke how movie time is 3x slower. To my surprise it became apparent quickly the director was doing the movie in real time, so that seemed cool.

However, even when things got down to 45 minutes then 30, etc, the characters didn't seem in much of a hurry for most of it. On the flip side, there was no time for slow creeping horror. Seemed like we didn't get a frantic "chase" movie nor the slower version, which is odd in retrospect.

And the problem with Prometheus is Damon Lindelhof.

The repurposed lines, member berries, and characters making stupid decisions because that’s the only way the writers could make the plot work made it a mediocre movie at best.

It was a good concept but they failed to execute.

But it will make enough money that studios will continue to drain the franchise for every last penny.

The franchise is dead to me.

Saw it last night, enjoyed it a lot, 3rd best Aliens movie like others have said. I don't know why making a real horror Aliens film took 45 years after the original but moving on.

The black goo can break down DNA, remake DNA into other beings etc etc.

The girl was preggers, injected herself with the goo to heal her wounds....out pops alien engineer combo. Where did the engineer piece come from? Was it engineer/alien DNA boiled down into that goo?

I think the "reveal" was that the Engineers were a human/xenomorph combo.

Ridley Scott had a huge hand in that, too.

Scott and Lindelhof moved away from John Spaiht’s original treatment that made clear connections between Alien and Prometheus. It made much more sense. There is a bit of a “the engineers sent Jesus” thread that I’m glad they removed, but the rest of the cuts happened because Scott made the bone-headed decision to distance Prometheus from Alien when he should’ve done the opposite. That was his decision, not Lindelhof’s.

I guess I’ll just never understand thinking about movies in this extreme way. Did those things suck? Sure. But did they take away from the rest of the movie? No. Not at all. I’m really surprised people let a few lines and one bad CGI character affect their entire view of a movie that pretty much nailed everything else.

Is it also true Fede Alvarez was banned on reddit after the mods thought someone was impersonating him?

I missed this part about how she knew to inject herself. She was pretty bad off. Why did she think injecting herself would cure her?

I have an assumption: After the Synthetic messaged her on the ship to give him control of the ship so he could pilot her to safely remotely, there was a cut back to Rain doing her thing and once we’re back with the girl on the ship, she injects herself. So I can only assume the Synthetic told her to do it offscreen or told her the properties of the vial (knowing she would probably inject herself even if he didn’t outright tell her to.) I could totally be misremembering, though.

Saw it yesterday in dolby. I thought it was great! I'm giving it a 8.7/10. The two leads were really good. I got it 3rd in my alien franchise rankings.
Alien
Aliens
Romulus
Prometheus
Covenant
Alien 3
Alien 4

on a work trip in colorado and just got out.

very much enjoyed. reminiscent of Alien (OG) in a confined horror movie. i liked that they really didn't try to jump scare you much. you saw what was coming a mile away but it was still terrifying in a great way.

8/10.

i knew exactly what was coming and yet my mind could not prepare me for the manmade horrors beyond my comprehension that happened. that thing was pure nightmare fuel. also.again, reminiscent of the first, after she dumped the cargo bay, i absolutely knew we hadn't seen the last of it.

Saw it yesterday. Great experience - 4 out of 5 for me. Good performances, amazing sets and practical effects, some really cool setpiece moments, impeccable sound design

As far as knocks against it - It was too long, there were too many "hehe remember this?!" moments and references, the script followed the traditional alien formula a bit too much, and the Ian Holm AI was dogshit and totally unnecessary. Nothing remotely bad enough to sour the experience though. It was a great theater experience and it's a movie I will watch again

If she hadn’t gone back for Andy, they all would have ended up dying. Pretty sure part of the reason she gave birth to that monstrosity wasn’t JUST because she injected herself with the black liquid. Pretty sure the Xenomorph had already harmed her and the baby while she was glued to the wall. The black goo mixed with whatever the xeno had already done to her, hence why the baby had the look of both a xeno and an Engineer.

Disagree here. The archive footage of the rat and the final lingering shot of its transformed remains in the lab pretty explicitly state what happens when something is integrated with the Z-01.

Plus, her going back for Andy was kind of the entire point of the story tbh

Yes. As soon as she got in the elevator and they showed Andy on the grating, you had to know she was going back.
