quote:There's a review out there that's "negative" which I put in quotes because I don't think it makes observations that are bad, just true. The first hour is classic Sandler and somewhat bland... the last 13 minutes, however, is really fantastic. Only it's fantastic for it's emotion even if there are laughs and smiles thrown in. Overall, I enjoyed it.
I also was not expecting to tear up at the end...

I have always been a Sandler fan. Started a little slow, but continues to build. I seldom lol, but I did a few times during this.

I might give this a whirl. I liked Sandler on SNL when he was with the last crop of folks on there who were actually funny. Always was a fan of Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison.

Honestly tried it... and within 15 minutes thought of Thomas Wolfe from H.S.
About the time most watched Sandler.
Still love Veronica Vaughn and Shooter...
But You Can't Go Home Again.
Vintage doesn't work with Sandler outside of movies. It seemed way too dated his routine. What year was hannakku song?
1993? This stand up would have been huge in 1993.
What a difference two decades make.
But he was never a stand up guy.
He was SNL and then made Drew Barrymore movies after Happy and Billy.

Oh but he was. And he has a few audio comedy CDs.

I turned it on and was watching somewhat passively and thought it was stupid. But 5 minutes later I found myself giggling like a 12 year old. It was interesting to see him do the same type of comedy that made him famous 25 years later.

I still sing this sometimes in the shower.
I also sing At a Medium Pace to my wife.

I've never been much of a Sandler fan, but I liked the low stakes and easy-going vibe of the special. It was a guy who has pretty much done everything he wants to do in life, has nothing left to prove, just chilling out with people and singing a bunch of funny songs. And let's face it, they were so short, even if the song didn't work, he's was on to the next gag in a minute.
He's slowly become your Jewish uncle, but it's a role that suits him. He still has a glint of juvenile puerile humor in his eye, but really, he's about as wholesome as comedy gets these days. His DisneyWorld bit about riding the coaster with another dad was amazing, and relatable for every dad who stands in lines for his kids, only to get ditched when they get to do fun stuff.
And while the Farley tribute is the song people have been rightly raving about, I thought the Getting Old With You update to close the show was even more honest and touching. He grew old and shockingly, he's doing it gracefully.

Bump. I laughed hard. It's dumb and silly but that's classic Sandler. Felt like it was '95 again.
And yeah, I teared up at the end. Had no idea it was coming

I can still sing most of that song from memory and I haven’t listened to it in probably 10 years.
My brother and I still reference or quote skits from those albums like The Buffoon, The Talking Goat, Toll Booth Willy, Longest Pee, and Sex or Weightlifting.

Not the funniest thing he has done but it certainly has heart and comes from the right place. I enjoyed it. Probably the best thing he has done in over a decade.

Good special. I enjoyed it. Especially the song about my kid has one line in the play
Man, that’s too funny about those old songs. I still sing Piece of shite car(I drive a 2008 Altima with 215k) and almost 100% of the time when I’m drinking and pissing in a public restroom I will sing “the longest pee”

Watched it tonight and really enjoyed it. His songs really are quite genius in how simple they are but are so relatable. He’s just a very down to Earth guy, good stuff.
