A&E Biography WWE Legends: Bill Goldberg

Anybody catch this Sunday night?
Apparently A&E is doing another round of their Wrestling legends biographies and the Goldberg episode aired Sunday.
Undertaker was on the previous week, but I haven't seen that one yet.
The Goldberg episode is pretty decent.
The episode is a lot more self-critical than I thought it would be.
Goldberg made it absolutely clear that he was never in the pro wrestling business because he lived and breathed wrestling (like say, Austin or Flair, etc) but basically because he never made it like he wanted in football, and couldn't do much else and needed a physical outlet that also paid a ton of money.
I also still can't believe WCW put the Goldberg/Hogna title match on free f-ing TV and only promoted it for a week.
That's one of biggest booking blunders I've vee seen.

More like a WCW legend..or mismanaged cash cow.

What people fail to overlook is that most PPV revenue went to Turner Home Entertainment and not WCW. And as someone who was there in person I for one am glad they had it on Nitro.

I caught that Undertaker one by accident last week during hotel stay. I thought it was great. It was clearly made after retirement, but I didn’t realize it was something brand new. Definitely worth a watch if you’re a fan.

I would disagree because it was one of the best moments in that company's history and def a povitol moment for the business as a whole. Yes it would have been better to put it on Starrcade and build it for 2 months but it still worked much better than the Hogan vs Sting catastrophe that was Starrcade 97

There was so much crazy shite going on at WCW during that time period. Fairly well discussed on the 83 weeks podcast/YT.

My favorite story is still Scott Steiner stealing the Big Gold Belt and taking it home and WCW nor WWE ever asking for it back (they started using cast copies of the belt in the late 90s). He eventually sold it to a private collector for 6 figures.

i've been watching these. makes me miss the attitude era and highlights how much it sucks these days. the rivals show that comes on after is decent as well

The episode dedicated to him on the Monday Night Wars docu-series was really well done. I was surprised how tightly focused on the business aspect of wrestling he was. He'd just flat out refuse storylines or bookings unless they made sound business sense for him and his brand.

I remember going to a PPV in Mobile in '97 it was Uncensored.
that same year, I saw a Monday Night Raw same venue.
the actual wrestling and contact made weren't even close.
the WWF was the better product out of those two shows.
Bret Hart-Curt Henning was a good match at Uncensored.
The Hogan-Randy Savage main event was a huge piece if shite!
But commenting on Goldberg, he had like what 3 or 4 moves?
including blowing out smoke during his entrance.
Lame.

Remember it like it was last week. Didn’t even promote it. Pretty sure the president just came out the week before and said it would happen in the Georgia dome the next week. No build up or anything. Basically they had this meteoric riser in Goldberg and couldn’t wait to give him the title.
They could’ve at least had him chase hogan and go through some more of the NWO for awhile. I don’t even think the two of them had been on camera for awhile. Hogan came out to the match saying something like he was gonna kick Goldberg’s butt or something similar.
Compared to the earlier nwo days it was very bland.

Damn you. I still get chills every time I watch it I can't imagine what it was like to be there

Don't watch it on the network, they dub over Voodoo Child for Hogan and used to dub over Goldberg's theme.

JJ Dillon announced it on Thunder which was 4 days prior. Goldberg said on the Rise and Fall of WCW DVD that that's how he first learned of it. Supposedly Hogan was gonna get his win back at Starrcade.
And again, Turner Home Entertainment got most of the revenue from PPVs so it's not like WCW lost out on millions like revisionist history claims.

Hogan to WCW was one big blunder

It was good. But imo it was an abbreviated version of the documentary that was release a few years ago. This just included his HOF induction.

I'm waiting for the eventual Gillberg episode.

I think you mean 1998, becaue Bret Hart was still in WWF until the end of 97.
Regardless of the mixup, by March of 98, WWF's actual roster talent and in-ring abilities would have been massively better than WCW, even though WCW was still probably winning the ratings.
The best big name workers WCW had at the time were a drug-addled Scott Hall, Bret Hart and Henning, and an already ancient Ric Flair. They also had Jericho and a bunch of the Cruiserweights like Eddie Guerrero and Benoit, but those guys were essentially mid-carders their whole time there.
Meanwhile, WWF had as their top stars, Austin, Undertaker, HHH, Rock, Kane, the tail end of Shawn Michaels, and Mick Foley.
And the thing of it is, every single one of those guys except Rock were in the WCW earlier in their careers. Amazing how much talent that promotion let get away.

That's right.
My bad the Raw was in 1997.
The pay-per-view was in 1998.

At a TNA house show in San Juan on June 3, 2007, Rechsteiner was kicked in the throat by his opponent, Apolo. After he began coughing up blood, he was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a torn trachea and given five hours to live. He was put in an induced coma for two days, while doctors cut through his ribs and lung to repair the tear, then began draining fluid from his lungs for the next two weeks. Unable to fly because the change in air pressure would have caused his lung to collapse, he eventually left on a cruise ship and arrived in mainland U.S. one week later.[85]
