Books is correct. Baratheon was a bastard related to the Targaryn's. During the invasion he lead an army against the King of the Stormlands and defeated him. For this he was legitimized and set up as a great house. Therefore Robert had a familial link to the Targs, Ned did not.

SPOILERS - Anyone in this thread expecting not to see them should be flayed (i'm looking at you driveman)
I am seriously confused as to how the battle turned out. In the synopsis it says Stannis was betrayed by Millisandre (sp?), but I don't remember reading anything about that. Is that hashed out early in book 3?

If you are talking about kings landing, tyrion had a major hand in it...

For a few hours earlier today, Amazon.de (the German branch of Amazon) was selling copies of A Dance with Dragons for immediate dispatch. Word spread and a number of fans, including some in the USA, were able to order the book before Amazon realised what was happening and reverted the date back to the official release day of 12 July. Unfortunately (for the publishers), they appear to not have been in time to stop a few of the orders going out.

Damn working for a living spoils all the fun.

Too bad I can't read german
Posted on 6/28/11 at 7:45 am to WavinWilly
I guess that would be the German language edition, wouldn't it?

I would think. And I just realized my comment could be taken as a germans response but it wasn't intended that way
ETA just looked on amazon.de and I think it may have been the english version

I've got my copy pre-ordered, unfortunately the release date isn't until AFTER my week of vacation at the beach.
I'll have to find something else to read then.

Cancel your pre-order, buy a Nook and pre-order the e-book, if you're in the central time zone and have access to wi-fi you'll get you're e-book download around 11:00 pm on July 11th no matter where you are.
The new Nook is $139. The e-book is $15 (cheaper than a hard back)

Starting "Game of Thrones" on my kindle tonight. Had to make it through the last and worst of the Sookie Stackhouse books first.
Just learned about this show last week, have already watched all ten episodes a couple of times, and now ready to try and take on these three books before the new one comes out.
I guess I'll just have to hold off on starting Ray Nagin's book.

This is an awesome book and wiseman's fear does not disappoint. Just as good in my opinion. I need to reread them both because I read each in about 3 days.

Same here
It almost felt like the story telling method changed in those last 300 pages. It went from telling things PoV style to telling things PoV-style while mind-fricking you until you read the next chapter to figure out what happened. Maybe earlier ones were like that, but I didn't notice till those last sections.
