I don’t get the hype for this BS. First off, congrats to Emily and John’s characters for winning worst parents on earth award.
Spoilers:

You mean to tell me that the right time to teach your son to fish is when your wife is about to pop out a baby? Do they even give a frick about the two kids they already have? They obviously didn’t care about the one that got killed seeing that they just let him walk way the hell behind them.

You mean to tell me these stupid arse resident evil looking creatures couldn’t be killed by earths mightiest armies, but a deaf girl and her mom figures that shite out with a busted hearing aid and a shotgun?

Awful movie

You're looking way too hard into a genre film script. It's good at what it does.

Also, how did they put down all that sand and other sound proofing without making any noise?

It was slowly excreted from OP's vagina.

I thought there were some massive plotholes and logical inconsistencies with the monsters, but still really enjoyed the movie. It was well acted and directed despite the weak writing.

I mean the sand would have been pretty easy. That doesn't make a ton of noise, and as long as you're not making more noise than the ambient noise around you, then you won't alert them. Some of the other things, no clue.

They shouldn’t have shown the creatures or shown them as much as they did. At least in Birdbox they didn’t show them and there was no real hope of ever escaping them.

I thought it was good, but there were definitely some questionable decisions made here and there (the father's death, for example, was literally completely unnecessary).

All in all I liked it though, and I chalked up some of the stupid decisions to not having much of a movie without them. If characters always made the correct, smart decisions then movies would be fairly boring. Some I can withstand, but too many and the movie loses me. And while this one had a few, I still was interested through the end.

the most unbelievable part of the movie was the nail sticking up in the staircase.

Yeah, it ruins the gritty realism of most horror movies.

When I watched The Ring, I really identified with it, because I watched a lot of murderous VHS tapes. I was possessed by demons a lot, so The Exorcist hit home too.

It's a movie. Of the logical gaps and/or plot holes in movies, none of what you mentioned is that bad. Also, in real life, people make dumb and careless decisions.

A unique premise and setting, characters worth caring about, proficient development of suspense.

It probably won't be long before someone tries to cash in with a third companion gimmick horror movie involving covering up or plugging your ears from malevolent sounds.

A Quiet Place (no speaking) and Bird Box (no seeing) already locked down two of the three "Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil" trope.

The baby being born with no help in the span of about 5 minutes was a little silly as well as the lack of crying over what I assume was several hours that Act 3 took place in.

Other than that, it was my #1 movie of 2018 and I very much liked it

I'm like, do these people never cough/sneeze/snore/talk in their sleep/fart??

Sucked that the dad just happened to get killed right before they figured out how to kill the creatures

Overall I thought it was OK but not worth the hype
