Dunk isn’t the kind of smart/devious that would make up being knighted.
Edit to ask a question: are the downvotes based on the first episode or from something from the book?

But he did.

I'm not the world's biggest GoT fan (most of it was high quality, I'm just not a huge fantasy guy).
And I liked this for the most part. Good, original (to me) storytelling.

Probably based on him actually not being knighted. Pretty clear he wasn’t knighted before Arlan’s passing. He took his sword saying basically it was a shame to get rid of a good sword. Scene was word for word with the book in some parts.
In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t change how honorable Dunk is for me but it certainly wasn’t an honorable singular act/decision. He saw an opportunity and he carried on the lie.

There’s a passage later, can’t remember if it’s book 1 or 2 or 3, but Dunk basically admits to not being knighted. Not in so many words, but talks about big lies and carrying them with you.

quote:Well, and he also sat and thought about how he had no employment options, except for joining the city watch, which you don't have to be a knight to do. He didn't settle on the tournament until the very end. If he'd recently been knighted, you'd think he would have considered more options.

I thought it was pretty straightforward in the flashback that he wasn’t Knighted. Since he asked his Lord to do so and he just gave him the silent treatment.
Did I miss something somewhere that suggested he is one? It’s been long enough since I read the novellas I don’t remember.

As I remember it it was left pretty ambigous. Which certainly suggests he was not.
And one episode in I think they were both extremely well cast. Lionel Baratheon as well. HBO's casting department has been hitting home run after home run for what . . 30 years now?

In what way was making the Velaryons black a homerun?

Rewatching E1 before E2 is released here shortly. Has it been discussed who the blonde hair guy at the inn sitting at the table when Dunk arrives? He seems to “know” who Dunk is, but at this point I don’t think Dunk knows who or what he is. Nonetheless, the mysterious person appears threatened by Dunk’s presence. My theory is based on physical appearance alone, he’s a Targaryen. And his hostility towards Dunk is somehow related to maybe a prophecy or a dream. Believe the Targaryen’s held much weight in both, so maybe he saw Dunk in some sort of vision from the future showing they would cross paths again someday, and maybe at the stranger’s demise. Haven’t read the books just entertaining a thought. Can anyone confirm or deny if I’m onto something?

We know who he is but in the interest of no spoilers, I won't say it. It's not a huge deal anyway, but does have some relevance to the story.

Kinda figured he could be the Targaryen prince Dunk competes against later on based on the preview. Just didn’t get a good look at him. But, yeah, don’t want any spoilers if that’s where my curiosity will lead to.
