but one thing that really irritates me is the romance between JGL and his psych.

Agreed. It should have been implied, not stated, and left unanswered. The happy ending was he survived, not that he got the girl in the end.

Yes, that is what I liked about it. It seemed like how buddies would act in real life.

Im no screen writer or anything, but this movie feels so real other than that. They could have had a chick in his chemo group that he relates with and draws strength from rather than his therapist if they just HAD to have a love interest.

Agreed. I don't mind sexual tension between him and the therapist, but in the end they're going out? Give me a break. You're right in saying she should have merely been a mutual chemo patient.

Well, I only saw the movie once (and loved it), but as I recall, throughout the film there was a bit of chemistry between him and his psych, it just never went over the line. Even after he was no longer her patient, when she comes to see him in the end, it's clear that he perceives it as a date, but she says, "what now?" and he laughs, the movie ends, and it makes me think that the "getting the girl" part was implied. Granted, it was implied with a brick to the head, but it was implied.

I don't know. That just never bothered me. To me, in a situation like JGL was in, the world seems to be collapsing around you, you tend to reach out for love. And not just friendship or parental love, but actual love. It made sense that JGL had a thing for her. It made sense that she had a thing for him given that he was her first patient, they got incredibly close, and they were roughly the same age. It worked within the context of the film, imo.

That actually made the least sense.

did you completely ignore the points made earlier in this thread?

It made NO sense that this happened as her FIRST patient. That's ridiculous. One patient in and you're already falling for them? so you're batting 1.000 on percentage of patients you've dated.

It made no sense in the context of the movie imo. Like I stated earlier, if the studio just HADDDDD to have a love interest(in a movie about a guy's battle with cancer and his best friend's attempt at being an awesome friend) then they should have made the love interest a chemo patient or something.

Instead, the whole time I'm thinking to myself, "ahh please dont do it, dont do it, it's unethical, it goes against everything they teach us in school, ahhhhhh crap, she did it...."

ETA: Let me restate for the record, that I still love this movie and it's still very realistic. This one thing bugs me though

I never really thought about the therapist thing. Never really bothered me since they didn't actually date till after the therapy was over. As real as a movie can be but it's still a movie at least they didn't kiss, that would have pissed me off, real cheese
