No way that movie gets made today. Not because of the PC police. Just imagine pitching it to the studio...."ok it's 5 teens that sit in a school the entire movie"....nope pass.

The teens today would include a skinny jean hipster, a tranny, and a person of color.

And one of the plot themes would be someone being misgendered.

Interestingly, Ally Sheedy was sort of androgynous in the movie.

Because she was a compulsive liar...

And then learned she had to stop lying to herself...

Never understood the janitor scene.

It seems so out of place in the movie and really makes no sense.

You guys think I'm just some untouchable peasant? Serf? Peon? Well, maybe so. But following a broom around after shitheads like you for the last 8 years, I've learned a couple of things.

Like what? An adult learning things from high school kids?

I look through your letters.

Why? What adult would find stupid gossip classroom notes interesting?
quote:

I look through your lockers.

How? Every high school I've ever known, every student has their own personal combination lock.

I listen to your conversations, you don't know that but I do.

Okay, so now you're just some creepy old dude that finds the adolescent conversations of kids interesting.

This scene should have seen the editing floor.

I think it's just adding a layer, even if it's a small one, of depth to the character. Most people probably envision janitors as drooling buffoons that can barely dress themselves. He's just showing that he's a bit more in tune than they think. Like he said he hears their convos, know where their dope is, etc. When he said "btw that clock is 20 minutes fast" you can even see bender give him a little smirk like "well played old man".

We also see at the very end that he was once voted man of the year. I think that's just in there to show the viewer, even if the students didn't konw that, that even if you think you're a badass (like some of them in detention do) you can still end up getting knocked down a few pegs later in life based on choices.

Stupid, worthless, no good, goddamn, freeloading son of a bitch. Retarded, big mouth, know-it-all, a-hole, jerk.

You forgot ugly, lazy and disrespectful.

Shut up bitch. Go fix me a turkey pot pie.

I'm calling horseshite. What was the percentage of students that even put locks on their lockers at their high schools?

You didn't have a lock on your locker? That was a good way to get your shite stolen/fricked with at my high school.

Nah. I did the very Freshman thing and had all my shite in my book bag. When I got older I just tossed them in the trunk of my car. 4 years and I never knew where my locker was.

Plus, imagine what janitors find when they clean out lockers after the kids leave for the summer.

Yes. Also...

quote:

Principal photography began on March 28, 1984, and ended in May. Filming took place at Maine North High School in Des Plaines, Illinois, which had closed in 1981. The same setting was used for interior scenes of Hughes's 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which featured exterior shots from nearby Glenbrook North High School. The library at Maine North High School, considered too small for the film, prompted the crew to build the set in the school's gymnasium.[12] The actors rehearsed for three weeks and then shot the film in sequence.[13] On the Ferris Bueller's Day Off DVD commentary (featured on the 2004 DVD version), Hughes revealed that he shot the two films concurrently to save time and money, and some outtakes of both films feature elements of the film crews working on the other film. The first print was 150 minutes in length.[14]

I still quote this movie frequently with my daughters:

"The next time I have to come back in here, I'm cracking skulls."

"You mess with the bull, you get the horns."

So, Ahab...Kybo Mein Doobage...
I'ts in the script. WTF does that mean? I always thought he said, "Can I bum my doobage?"
