Well it was Des Plaines, Illinois...in the 80's. So that would have been pretty much Midwest 80's hot.
I mean its why Sixteen Candles works; she's even shocked that Jake likes her as is the audience...she's sort of frumpy.

Mr Vernon...[cough] Dick....was fantastic. I agree BC and maybe Fast Times are neck and neck for best 80s HS flick. Dammmmmn can’t believe that’s 35 yrs ago.
