Really?

Mikey Madison? For that role?

Chalamet has been killing it and hasn’t won yet.

But Madison wins for that?

The Academy hates horror and Sci Fi which is why Demi didn’t win. They just can’t get out of their own way and break their own biases.

What just happened?

Watch the movie and report back. The Brutalist and Demi Moore lost the awards. Wicked wasn’t in the competition.

Your taste sucks.

No one thought Erivo had a chance at actress, and she shouldn't have had a chance with Madison and Moore in the category.

The only movie I've seen of these listed was A Complete Unknown and Dune 2. So I cannot really judge. Despite saying that, this is by far the least amount of Best Picture nominees I've ever seen in a given year. I usually watch all of them.

Well, that was surprisingly fun. I thought Demi should have won but I only saw about 4 of the movies nominated, so whatever.

The Oscars seem to be winding down as a thing, but it was good for a boring Sunday night.

It’s a common Oscar-bait trope. “The hooker with a heart of gold.”

Take a look: 10 Oscar Winners Who Played a Hooker

Hell, Emma Stone’s character from last year’s Poor Things whores herself out, too.

The brutalist, Anora and the substance were all good films. Give them a watch when you can.

I have to add Flow to your list. It deserves the Animated award. Streaming on Max.

The last hour and a half of Anora was really enjoyable.

Not my favorite movie of the year, but dang good, and absolutely deserving of the awards it got, especially in a somewhat down year.

Adrien Brody has joined an exclusive list of actors who have won two or more Oscars for Best Actor in a Leading Role:

Daniel Day-Lewis
Spencer Tracy
Jack Nicholson
Marlon Brando
Dustin Hoffman
Gary Cooper
Tom Hanks
Fredric March
Sean Penn
Anthony Hopkins

Some of the greatest actors to ever do it are on that list. Congrats to him.

If Meg Ryan had walked out by herself and they didn't say who she was, I never would have recognized her.

Demi was robbed. Sucks for her but at least she got the Golden Globe.

I didn’t watch, how was Conan and how political did it get?

I liked Anora but didn’t think it was best picture worthy. Surprised September 5 wasn’t up for anything, one of my favorites from last year. Plan on watching The Brutalist this week, only one I haven’t seen

Looks like Anora will be streaming on Hulu March 17th. But apparently it can be rented now on the usual pay sites like Prime YT, Vudu, etc.

More like stumbled out! I thought is she drunk, tripping on her dress, or sprained ankle? And yes, she definitely has the joker look!

That is a common trope, in films, not just Oscar winners. Madison, and Stone in Poor Things, plays a character who does not have a heart of gold. The lack of sentimentality is part of the point of Anora. The marriage is an extension of the transaction, and there is no point of Anora where that is in question. Anora starts with that Pygmalion framing that Pretty Baby used. It very quickly turns from that path.

That shouldn't negate her being deserving of the win anyway

If 13/194 winning female performances have gone to characters involved with prostitution, that's 6%? 6ish. 20+ actor winners have won for military characters. How many have won for playing artists/performers? How many for real life people? Half of the best actor wins this century have gone to portrayals of real people. Are all those wins invalidated? While many have come from movies I would personally describe as Oscar bait, many of the performances have been incredible and deserving.

I'm curious now what the breakdown of character occupations looks like across the 388 winning Actor/ Actress and supporting performances. Someone run the numbers.

As great as an Oscars night as it had, I dont understand how someone can watch something as intense, funny, and mean as Anora and say to themselves, "Same old Oscar bait."
