Does this mean a bunch of douchebags are gonna start showing up to Hold Steady shows? Becuase that'll piss me off.

Nah, probably a bunch of stupid spoiled chicks driving convertibles will be singing along to them next to you at a stoplight. It happened to Kings of Leon.

I'm so thankful that happened to Kings of Leon and not the Drive by Truckers. Its amazing the not as good country-rock act became huge, but I almost started to hate KoL after hearing that song over and over and over. It's not even a good song. A shame, because they have some awesome stuff.

Then again, I'd like for Mike Cooley to have a mansion. Or at least have the money to go on an epic bender.

High Violet debuted at number 3 on the billboard charts. Thought that was pretty cool. Good for the National.

That's huge for them. Huge.

I'm calling it. This is the best year for indie rock since 1991, when Sub Pop exploded. There's just so much good material being released right now.

Good call. It's already one of the straight best years for music quality in a long time, "indie" or not. A bunch of these are hitting their creative stride now, it's totally awesome.

I've been really into Dr. Dog lately. I really like all the albums you mentioned. Fate could be one of my favorite albums in a long time. The new album...not so much.

Interesting. I really think it's their best all the way through. "Strangers," Where'd The Time Go," "Unbearable Why?" None of that catching your ear?

I think my expectations were really high after Fate because that album really hit home for me. I think they set the bar pretty high on their prior albums, at least for me. But don't get me wrong, I still like the new album (Shame, Shame has been sticking with me the most)...just not the same level of enthusiasm I have for the other albums.

Gotcha. They've had a great string of albums. I think Shame, Shame is the best quality so far, but I agree sometimes an album just hits home, comes at the right time. That makes it special.

I hate when a band I like blows up and all I can think when they are getting overplayed is "and this isn't even their good stuff."
Hopefully it doesn't happen to my boys The Gaslight Anthem. I have been on a major gaslight kick.

"We’ve had this longstanding rule that no live band sounds good on TV. And then we saw NJ’s Gaslight Anthem on Letterman and concluded that either a) our rule was wrong, b) they are, in fact, the band of our generation, or c) some combination thereof. Absolutely breathtaking." - Rolling Stone

I just listened to the whole Dr. Dog album for the first time. Sounded pretty good. Reminded me a lot of Bowie at times. Not sure if anyone else hears that or its just me.

Could use a non-Lost thread up in here.

The Black Keys album is growing on me thanks to "Never Gonna Give You Up"

The National has also rocketed up my playlist for some reason, I didn't think it would grow on me, I liked it from the beginning, but damn it's good.

TBK's song "Too Afraid to Love You" is just badass. And I do enjoy the new album quite a bit.

Man thank you for this thread. Just DL'ed The Midnight Organ Fight album by Frightened Rabbit, had never heard of them. Absolutely love this album. Also DL'ed High Violet and I've been needing this fresh music severely. Hell yeah!

I'm on the fifth song of Midnight Organ Fight and it feels like I've had a musical bath. I've been listening to the same shite over and over for like a year and had grown stale musically. This is just what the doctor ordered.

It's a great album, if not a little angry.

Their new one, Winter of Mixed Drinks, is a little more positive.

Last week I had thought of re-titling this thread since we have talked about so much more than the National album stream. Might have to do that.

Anyway, speaking of 2010 kick-arse music, I am really enjoying the new LCD Soundsystem album. I don’t care for two songs on the album (Drunk Girls and Pow Pow), but the rest range from good to great.

And yeah Midnight Organ Fight is great. My favorite album of 08.

I was finally able to listen to Dr. Dog's, TBK, Band of Horses, Beach House, and The National's albums, and High Violet is my favorite out of them all. I haven't tired of listening to it.

I know you are high on Shame, Shame, but I actually tired of it after the first listen, I'll give it another try soon though.

I really really like Winter of Mixed Drinks, but Midnight Organ Fight is one of the greatest albums of the decade. Hell, it could only have "Firth of Forth" and "Keep Yourself Warm" and it would be one of my all-time favorites.

"Keep Yourself Warm" might be angry, but it's a ridiculously great song. And if you have a chance to see them live, do so. It's how I found out about 'em. They were an opening act and blew my doors off. I bought their album that night.
