Yeah, because that’s our main problem with Lord of the Rings is because we’re sexist.
Is this going to be good?
It says its based on the novel by Tolkien but 183 years before.
Are there writings covering this period or is it all going to be made up to try and fit with lord of the rings?

The fortress wasn't known as Helm's Deep, until Helm withstood a siege there in winter. This will be that war.
Rohan was attacked by the Dunlendings, with support from the Haradrim (which is where the mumakil factor in). Gondor was unable to help, because they were also under attack.
Helm was known as a big dude, got the name Hammerhand because he killed an enemy with a punch (which we see in the trailer).
References to Saruman would be appropriate, as he was settling into Isengard around that time. Rohan initially appreciated his presence, as it would be a powerful neighbor, presumably friendly and would protect their northern border. As for the tentacled beast (don't we always get them in anime?
The main way from Rohan to Rivendell would take you from the Gap of Rohan straight past Moria, which is where the Watcher is lurking in that pool. That little event likely persuades her from going further to Rivendell, instead turning back.

Too bad they can’t get Christopher Lee to voice.
Honestly, I’ll probably give it a shot. Maybe.
*Actually, naw. No interest.

it won't take it long to be on discovery max most likely. once the hardcore audience all watches it they'll move it over

And while it probably surprised the reader, her training and valor don't seem to shock the other Rohirrim, just Merry (the outsider from the Shire)
They didn’t know. She asked to do more but king Theoden kept sidelining her. So she snuck herself into battle by disguising herself. All the trans folk out there be joyful… you can see yourself in Eowyn.

Tired as he was Merry could not sleep. He had ridden now for four days on end, and the ever-deepening gloom had slowly weighed down his heart. He began to wonder why he had been so eager to come, when he had been given every excuse, even his lord’s command, to stay behind. He wondered, too, if the old King knew that he had been disobeyed and was angry. Perhaps not. There seemed to be some understanding between Dernhelm and Elfhelm, the Marshal who commanded the éored in which they were riding. He and all his men ignored Merry and pretended not to hear if he spoke. He might have been just another bag that Dernhelm was carrying. Dernhelm was no comfort: he never spoke to anyone.

Eowyn was 'passing' as a grim warrior Dernhelm, so much so that even Merry didn't know it was really her. Until he did.
The passage you posted was speaking to the men not paying Merry much attention, if any at all, and not about KNOWING Eowyn was riding with them.
The focus of the men were on the upcoming battle, and not worrying about whether or not to snitch to the King that a Halfling was along for the ride.

Are we certain this movie wasn't made under the same contract stipulations as ring of power where they were only allowed to use the appendices and no material already covered?
The brothers are covered already

Just Some Guy is pretty solid when it comes to breaking down Tolkien.
This very well could be another Furiosa bait & switch, where the lead is presented as a standard Mary Sue, but is actually more of a fully formed female character, like Ripley or Sarah Conner. Why studios think this is a good idea baffles me. But then again, too often we get trailers that reveal too much and gives away the plot. Time will tell.
Also, I've not commented on the animation style. Japanese Anime for a Tolkien story wouldn't be my 1st choice, but if the story is good, and it LOOKS decent enough, it shouldn't be a deal breaker. Another variation as Rankin Bass was to Ralph Bakshi.

The director has led several projects that had a female as the lead, including numerous Ghost in a Shell projects. He also directed East of Eden.
But Japan is more open to powerful female characters than America oddly enough. Though those females are typically well rounded characters that have to grow and become better usually after having the piss taken out of them.

Ghost in the Shell (not scarjo) and Akira are two of my favorite movies of all time.

More open but more importantly, they do the characters better.
