Not offended at all. I simply answered a few of your questions.

I was nitpicking details that in other movies I would have let slide.

I appreciate your honesty because that’s definitely how your original post came off.

One of the most amazing experiences I've ever had at the movies.

99% of what was on-screen (trenches, craters, buildings, costumes, etc...) was recreated from scratch and had hundreds of actors choreographed for the camera with perfect timing.

That was simply phenomenal.

Agreed. phenomenal.

I haven't seen Parasite, but 1917 blows the 2019 movies I have seen out of the water.

Very good to great film. Wish I'd not known about the tracking shot gimmick prior to the film.

A few too many coincidences keeping it from being great for me.

It's definitely the epic type of film that The Oscars love.

I liked how he cast pairs of actors from series... Two from Game of Thrones, two from Sherlock, two from Kingsmen.

I finally got to see it last night...

my first "Oh shite!" moment was when he cut his hand on the barbed wire...then I'm thinking did they have tetanus shots in WW1...

then, I'm looking at the load they're carrying...and the differences between the German and British trenches...

it is absolutely a gripping tale...was hoping for some sort of epilog, but the dedication to Mendes' grandfather said it all...

You were able to see this movie in the summer? Or you just made a proclamation 6 months before you or anyone saw it? Either way, that’s so cool man

And then it went into a rotting body. Nasty, and No penicillin for him.

You want to argue the story, fine. You wanna bitch about it not feeling like a “war movie” with huge battles and death everywhere. Fine. But the Camera work is beyond phenomenal

multiple times I found myself saying 'how the hell did they do that?"

Saw the film yesterday--really enjoyed it, but a few annoying details: 1) The entire premise is so flawed. Really, two messengers is the only way you can get there? When there are aircraft operating all over the front? Why not just have one of them drop a message?

This is the reason that I put off seeing the movie for so long. Saw it, today. Really liked it. But, like you, I just have a difficult time believing that the only way to save 1600 soldiers is to send just two corporals on a hike over land.

Why did we not hear the trucks and soldiers on the road right outside the house where the one main character dies? It was like they were there the entire time taking leaks and smoking cigarettes while the main character is bleeding out. I found it odd they pull up to the bridge that is destroyed, get out and chat and nothing happens until he gets near the bridge. Apparently the town was full of Germans and none shoot at the trucks or soldiers across the river...

I'm already on record reporting that I really liked the movie and won't back away from that opinion. I would even recommend the movie to my friends.

But, your comments about the mysterious troops who appear out of nowhere had me wondering, "Why weren't they assigned the task of communicating the warning?" "Where had they been, where were they going, why were they so unscathed?" "Where were they when Schofield got shot at while trying to cross the river?". Etc.

Like I said, though, I still enjoyed the movie.

A plane in WW1 is more valuable than 1600 men.

Worth more than the lives of 1600 soldiers? That is preposterous.

The same planes were getting aerial shots behind enemy lines and returning safely. The mission to drop a warning would not even have taken them behind enemy lines.

They chose the 2 soldiers because one was a brother. And Colin Firths character said less people move faster or something along those lines. And idk where they had been or where they were going, but I imagine they had their own orders to follow

Finally saw this last night. Best movie I’ve seen in at least ten years. The beginning with the trenches. Amazing.

There wasn’t any real character development and it ends rather abruptly.

The simplicity of the story is one of this movie's assets. The war wasn't complex for the front line soldiers. They had a mission. They performed the mission. Done.

This is one of the best war movies I've seen in a long time. It is a better movie than Dunkirk, that is for sure.
