Wow is all I can say...

After listening to Blueprint for Armageddon and hearing Carlin read firsthand accounts of the trenches and the barbed wire and the pure hell they went through.... to see it all played out in front of you makes that seem so much more like pure hell on earth

There was like 5 moments where my anxiety absolutely skyrocketed during the movie... some good Cameos throughout ( Cumberbatch/Strong/Madden)

it helped with the movie winning the Golden Globe before it came out... as I think people will def go see it who otherwise maybe would not have ...

It deserves all the awards. it was breathaking... literally..

my screening had almost half full on opening night in a College town... I was shocked.

When Tommen gets stabbed... I never saw that coming... and then that poor kid had to go through all that alone ...God I would've been so scared.

My 7pm showing was full. I absolutely loved it and it deserves an Oscar nom.

The scene where he wakes up in the city and the Germans were shooting flares into the night sky gave me anxiety

I really enjoyed it, it was shot extremely well. Living in those trenches like that must have been absolute hell

Why were they shootings flares in the first place and why did they stop? I was curious about that.

Very very emotional and shocking scene. The sense of futility is gnawing.

oh yes... when he's sprinting and getting shot at ....

and then he sees the building aflame and the guy starts walking slowly then starts to shoot him.... holy shite that was wild.

the rat hitting the tripwire I think scared the shite out of everyone in my showing.

I think to see the city but stopped when it started to get light outside. That bothered me that he didn’t grab a weapon or anything after surprising the two Germans

I was just as curious as Blake when I saw the bags tied to post in the bunker. When the rat grabbed the bag it all clicked in my head and i jumped.

I assume that was for the snipers or spotters to see enemy troops still in the city.

Honestly, this entire film makes me want to listen to the Dan Carlin WW1 podcast again.

I feel like that would have slowed him down while being chased by the two other germans.

That entire town gave me anxiety

I was thinking this in my head throughout the entire movie myself.

I feel like the main character was a cat. He got hurt a lot, he definitely should be showing his injuries more at the end.

He (probably) has an infected hand. He gets buried my dozens of large rocks. He gets blinded and you are t telling me that dust didn’t scratch his eyes getting that out. He gets shot. He hits his head hard enough to knock him out for hours. He almost drowns.

And at the end of it all he has the energy to run full Tom Cruise through the battlefield.

Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

I want a separate film about Lt. Leslie . Adam Scott was incredible in his role.

I thought he just fell backwards from being shot at and cracked his head?

Incredible.

I did not think either of them would die until maybe the very end, the Tommen death scene was so sad. Those other troops were 5 mins too late.

So many amazing, anxiety inducing scenes.

The sneak through no mans land, when they fall into that crater and he sticks his hand inside that German...

I thought the score and shot when Schofield is running across the British charge as artillery lands was absolutely breathtaking.

Best war movie for me in a long time. Makes me want to go buy a surplus Lee-Enfield too

Loved it. Favorite film of the year. Really shocked Tommen died. Thought for sure Scho would be the one to die close to the end. Really upped the ante and made you feel like Scho might not actually reach his destination.

The continuous long shot was incredibly well done. I thought I would get sick of it but I never did. By the time he finally tells McKenzie and Tommen’s brother the news and he sits by the tree you feel exhausted with him.

The only negative to me was the scene with the French woman and the baby. I get why it happened. Director thought the audience needed a break, and maybe we did, especially with the death and him knocking himself out on the stairs and the chase scene. I just wasn’t a huge fan of it, really halted the momentum and kind of ruined the moment later when you find out Scho has a wife and two girls. I didn’t hate the scene, just hated that it halted the momentum

Honest question, was it very much like Dunkirk in direction and narrative aspects?

Meaning was it a movie or just a theater experience?

What was the dialogue like?

What characters did we fall in love with?

What characters did we hate?

Not interested in movies that don't tell stories and just show.

If there's show AND tell...then now we're on to something because the trailer looks great. But also looks like another I don't care about anyone Dunkirk.

That’s up to you.

These are not one in the same. Dunkirk told a story. It was spectacle for sure for spectacle’s sake. But it def has a narrative and a good one but it’s problem was that it switched too much between the different POV’s which blocked you from developing an attachment to any of the characters. You don’t have to fall in love with characters or hate them to care about them. You can know only a little about a character and still feel an attachment to them, which is all you need and I think you definitely feel that with these characters.

Dialogue was fine. Direction was incredible. If you want to care about characters in film then I think you will care about both Blake and Schofield
