We're getting close to October. Can you please recommend 10 horror movies you think I should watch? Old, new, monsters, demons, killers/slashers, doesn't matter.

Perhaps controversial around here...

The VVitch.

Especially if you live somewhere that will actually be getting cold in October, it’s one of the best atmospheres in the horror genre. Love it.

The obvious one that started it the slasher genre - Halloween. IT Follows was very much in the mold of Halloween, making excellent use of sound and atmosphere. Both versions of IT are worth a watch this time of year. And less in the horror genre but more of a thriller, and IMO one of the most underrated movies of all time, Zodiac.

The 3 most horrifying movies that I have ever seen are:

Fast Times - where they cut the scene when she came out of the pool

Under Siege - where they cut the scene when she came out of the cake

Trading Places - well you know

I couldn't sleep that night

The big ones will be named (Halloween, Thing, etc.). I would watch The Autoposy of Jane Doe with all the lights off.

In terms of slashers, I'm a big fan of You're Next

Also, Mama, Beyond the Black Rainbow, Hell House Inc., Kill List, The Good Neighbor, Session 9, Rec.

Something off kilter: The Invitation and/or They Look Like People

Also, it's Halloween and the new GOAT Halloween movie is Trick R Treat, undoubtedly.

If you want a little counterprogramming horror, You're Next was great.

#1 hands down in Psycho. Hopefully you've already seen it but it hasn't been mentioned yet.

I'm not a new school horror guy, and I'm not a horror aficionado, but they too often depend on bloody violence, demon possesion, and complete shock factor instead of creepiness in the story itself. But I'm sure I'm missing out on some good new stuff too.

Psycho
The Birds
Pans Labyrinth (if that counts)
Halloween
The Thing

That would be my go to list. And clearly knowing there is nothing original about it, but they are tried and true.

Most of mine have been mentioned already, but I would add Trick or Treat and Halloween 3:Season of the Witch
