So a movie with cloverfield in the name, directed by the same director as cloverfield, and having the exact same plot about aliens taking over as cloverfield has no relation to the movie cloverfield?

For some reason I don't believe you.

It's not the same director. It's the same producer. I assume you mean JJ Abrams? He didn't direct the first one either. That was directed by Matt Reeves who did the amazing film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I don't know who directed this one.

The guy in the cellar got a scholarship to LA Tech. I didn't catch anything on Ruston.

Yup. Emmitt had a full ride track scholarship to La Tech, but stated he had never been more than 40 miles away from Lake Charles so he intentionally got wasted and missed the bus to Ruston. Emmitt wasn't very bright.

The thing I liked about Cloverfield was how real it all felt. Like it was something that could actually happen as opposed to Godzilla or Pacific Rim.

So if this one feels like that with the aliens, I'll go for it. It does not have to be a Cloverfield sequel, but I would like for it to be in the same universe or world.

This does feel extremely real. It's very tense. If you go in expecting a scifi centric movie though, you might be disappointed. This is a human story with human stories, in a human situation.

Just watched it. As soon as it ended, I thought to myself, this is going to be a Twighlight Zone type thing. Same universe, but not necessarily connected.

At least, I hope that's how it is because that would be awesome

I couldn't make out what it was saying there at the very end. I heard the part about Baton Rouge and if anyone had any medical or combat experience, but what was said about Houston?

I thought it said come to Houston if you had medical/combat experience. They were going to need help.

I read this thread and some people are a little confused about this or maybe not, but this ties into the story about the father who is pulling his little girl by the arm she told Emmit.

She told Emmit she will see something that needs to be done and her reaction is to always run away and not do anything.

The way I interpretted it was when she stopped on the road to either go to BR or Houston and she turned to Houston was her way of not running away anymore.

And most of the baddies were toward Houston instead of BR so she was going to try and whip some arse.

Which was nice but then the lightning showing monsters everywhere sort of ruined the moment for me.

I read a headline of a review before seeing the movie that said "Prepare for a twist"

So the whole movie I convinced myself that Emmitt actually was in with Howard on kidnapping Michelle and was mind fricking her. I believed this up until Howard shot him in the face

Turns out, the "twist" was there actually was an alien invasion? I mean that was one of 2 possibilities. Not much of a twist

Great movie, but probably a box office bomb.

Only 5 people in the theater this morning.

I hope I am wrong because I thought it was great.

Doubtful, mainly because it probably didn't cost much. Almost no sets and just a few CGI scenes at the end.

I have no doubt it will easily recoup the budget and marketing but it also won't make anyone rich.

Clovefield grossed $170 million worldwide on a $25 million budget. 10 Cloverfield Lane was budgeted at a significantly thriftier $5 million, and box-office analysts project it will earn $24 million this weekend alone.

or a better source, which says it was 15M budget

quote:

Paramount’s “10 Cloverfield Lane” was the only other significant draw on Friday with about $8 million at 3,391, projecting to a range of $23 million to $30 million for its weekend. That’s a solid performance for a project with a modest $15 million budget.

so it was between 5-15M budgeted, which it will easily surpass.

Just got out of the movie. It was very intense, compelling, & gripping.

Is this general consensus that he killed "Megan" due to the "help" and found earring? If so, that begs the question - how long has he been living down there?

Did he say he was 30 miles south of Lake Charles?

With a basement?

That would be an indoor pool.

Louisiana has a SCREWY map in the cloverfield universe.

Apparently 40 miles north of Lake Charles is south of Baton Rouge.

It was like the script originally said Shreveport and the executive goons thought "no one will know where that is" so they ordered some some low level lackey writer to sneak into Abrams' back office and "CNTRL+H"' every occurrence of "Shreveport" and replace it with "Baton Rouge".
