I actually kinda like Stidham as a prospect. But they’ve got to at least acquire a veteran backup who could start if Stidham proves to not be ready yet or gets hurt. I just can’t see them going into the season with JS and some rookie they take in the 3rd (or even 1st).

They'll grab the cheapest "established" QB they can. Maybe Matt Flynn can get another paycheck.

Stidham will never be successful in the NFL. He can carry a clipboard but that will be it

Stidham looked great at Baylor and then Auburn ran some retarded offense that didn’t play to his strengths.
Thats like saying he was great in high school but sucked in college. Dude is no NFL QB.

He can throw it like an NFL QB.
Patriots seem to like him.

I mean.. Stidham struggles under pressure in the pocket(especially in that second year) but in 2017, Auburn did win the West and beat #1 ranked UGA and #1 ranked Bama in consecutive weeks.
Stidham was good in those games and had AU at #2 and in position to go to the playoff until they lost to UGA in the rematch at the SECCG. Not sure if people remember any of that but it’s not like he’s totally incapable.

Gus is just so bad I can't base it on his time at Auburn. A pocket passer has never done well under Gus. I think it says a lot about Stidham that he was taken in the 4th despite how he played because he certainly did not play like a 4th round QB at all. He has something that the pats like, and he obviously did well enough for them to cut Hoyer, who was a very solid backup.
Stidham had terrible pocket awareness but that is fixable. You really never know how someone will perform until the lights are on. I just don't see the point in the pats signing Andy Dalton and limping to 9-7. If they (internally) believe that Stidham has a chance, they may as well see what they have in him.
Edit: A good example of how terrible Gus is at using his players: Darius Slayton had more yards this season playing 14 games than he did in any season at Auburn

Some people get struck by lightning, live, AND win the lotto. Statistically there must be 1-2.

He's got an NFL arm.
He played pretty well in pre-season.
The Patriots' players said repeatedly that he played well in practice and improved dramatically over the course of the year.
Belichick says he's a smart kid who did a good job picking up their offense.
He's their guy. At least for now.

Time will tell. Stidham has all the intangibles, but like every QB, it just depends on if they can adapt to the speed and schemes of NFL defenses.

if there are 1 or 2 you must be counting all the 500 billion beings on the 700 plausibly livable planets we've noticed wobbling star light from galaxies beyond Luke Skywalkers moms house.

Do you remember Stidham at Auburn? He was made fun of by the rest of the league.
They were laughing at home watching him play in the SECCG?

To be fair, you'd say the same thing about Tom Brady if this were the year 2000. He wasn't drafted until the 6th round.

Patriots have signed Brian Hoyer to back up Jarrett Stidham.
