Not pitching in AL East should help... especially no Fielder, Pujols, or Braun... and he gets a pitcher instead of a DH
Wouldn't surprise me to see him go like 13-9 with a 3.20-3.40 ERA and a ton of strike outs

He'll do well in the NL IMO. He's kind of a Javy Vasquez type, does well in the NL, but doesn't have enough control for the AL.

Well he did till he ended up in NY...
With Tor he walked 39, 66, and 86
With NY he walked 97, 78, and 83
He did battle bits of wildness in Florida as well, having a 90, 83, and 78 walk season...
Also with NY he had tendency to allow the home run including 31 last season and had a ton of wild pitches, led league last year.

I'd rather trade him to Cleveland and get Travis Hafner.
If not, trade him to Pittsburgh, and bring back Johnny.

The proposed trade between the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh that would make A.J. Burnett a Pirate is close but not quite done, and there are indications that the Yankees are pressuring Pittsburgh to sweeten its offer for the beleaguered 35-year-old right-hander

"The better the players they give us, the less money they have to pay, and vice versa," said the Yankee source, who added that three other clubs were still interested in Burnett, including a West Coast club that is on Burnett's no-trade list. A source told ESPNNewYork.com that the Yankees took a phone call from the Indians regarding Burnett on Tuesday morning.

This deal either gets done today (Thursday) or tomorrow. Or it's called off and the Yankees wait till the trade deadline.
I don't think the Yankees would want to bring him into camp this weekend, and then trade him a few minutes, hours, or days later.

Yeah but they may be better off trading him now...
Hell a team like Pitt will accept him so they could possibly try and spin him at the deadline I would assume....
If he sucks it during the year I doubt Yankees find anyone willing to take him or the contract.

The Yankees were hoping they could bring back Bobby Abreu to be their designated hitter by swapping [Burnett] to the Angels, but the righthander would not waive his no-trade rights, according to two baseball executives with knowledge of the talks.

So looks like to the Pirates for two marginal prospects (not that I mind) with Yankees picking up bulk of salary

Certainly appears that way.

At this point I will be happy as long as they can just get rid of some of his contract.
The Jones/Burnett deal makes perfect sense for both teams IMO. Both players coming off of a couple disappointing seasons. Both teams have young guys that are about to take their spot (Marte in Pitt and Hughes/Banueols/Betances in NY).
Burnett should do much better in the NL. Jones is solid against RHP and has the potential to be REALLY good hitting in Yankee Stadium.

Do we know which two prospects since Jones will not be included?
Posted on 2/16/12 at 11:48 pm to tduecen
You never really know in a deal like this until it happens. Probably guys like Zack Von Rosenberg or Alex Dickerson. If the Yankees are lucky they could get a guy like Kyle McPherson, Jeff Locke, or Robbie Grossman.

I don't.
Haven't seen any names floated either, other than. Jones.

Ken Rosenthal reports that there is a soft deadline for Saturday for a deal to be completed. He mentions that the Yankees would move quickly to sign Eric Chavez and Raul Ibanez after a trade, and that one or both of those moves could happen even if Burnett isn’t dealt. Rosenthal also mentions that the Pirates are the only realistic trade partner for the Yankees.
