I really dont know why they dont go after Lee. He would be a great #7 hitter

Why not go after Cespedes?
Chavez is cheaper and played well in limited action last year

Meh. Lee hit RHP better than anybody they are looking at last year. Matsui had a .654 OPS against RHP which is pretty terrible for a leftie.

No idea why....

Cano
Gardner
Tex
Swisher
Granderson
Dickson

all can bat from left hand side

Me either, that just seems to be Girardi and Cashman's mindset.

I know, I was half-joking.

However....

They're trying to shed AJ. Even if they eat half his salary (that's the numbers I've seen), they'll save ~15-million.

This will most likely be Mo's last year. $15-million there.

Swisher's deal is up after this year. 10-million there.

After 2013, Jeter and Soriano come off the books. 30-million.

From what I've seen, Cespedes will pull 7-10 a year. Bite the bullet this year, don't re-sign Swisher next.

Highly unlikely but it's always fun to speculate and dream

The Pirates also have spoken with the Yankees about Burnett, though those conversations failed to progress and perhaps qualified only as due diligence, major-league sources said.

There was an article other day about AJ that was a good read and now I can not find it.

Because they want a leftie to split the DH with Andruw Jones.

But anyway, I'd take Johnny Damon, but not as his 5 mil asking price. Or I'd take Godzilla, dude is clutch, but he does most damage against lefties, so that would kinda defeat the purpose.

But they don't need a lefty so much is point... They have a few who could slide into DH role and have another productive player in the field.

Hell I am fine with giving one of the young kids some AB at DH and time in the field through out the season.

I believe that was initially the plan until we made the move for Pineda.

That's just it, I would feel better with Damon out there than most of our young guys.

Is Shelley Duncan available?

My line of thinking is, the three individuals most talked about all are older and in the decline...
Last year Damon had best avg (.261) and OBP (.326)
Ibanez provided most power with 20 home runs and had highest Slugg (.419) Damon had highest OPS + at 110.

With a young guy I think Yankees could get that .250-.270 avg one of those guys would bring along with a .300-.330 OBP and 10-20 home runs.... So why not go with a cheaper alternative rather than a name?
Plus putting them as DH/part time fielder you are not asking a lot and putting any extra stress on player. He would have freedom to perform.

No doubt Damon is the best of those three.

I agree I just don't know if anyone on the roster could fill that kind of a role. Damon was still seeing lots of pitches last year and you know Cash loves him some patience at the plate. Damon could be a solid pickup. I don't like the $5-million price tag....but it ain't my money
