Mariano Rivera's final word to the group of reporters who clustered around his locker Monday was simple enough to understand.
"Adios."
And for most of the eight-and-a-half minutes he kept us entertained after the first workout in Yankees camp 2012, he sounded an awful lot like a man headed into his final season of major league baseball.
He spoke, as retiring players often do, about the difficulty of separating from his family for yet another spring training. He said he had made his decision two or three weeks ago, admitted it was "a hard one," but declared it final.
Mo On 50 Greatest Yankees List
Mariano Rivera now owns baseball's career saves record. So where does he rank among the all-time Yankees?
ESPN NY's Top 50 Yankees Photo Gallery Vote
"Irrevocable," was the word he chose, meaning nothing would change his mind, "even if I save 90 games [or] if they offer me this much money ... anything."
If he does retire... I'll be sad

Same here. The crazy part is...he has had above (his career) average seasons the last 4 years. He is really an ageless wonder.

Article by Aaron Gleeman, ask if Yankees wanted to sign a mediocre DH why not resign Posada. Stated Posada's numbers vs RHP were actually better. Yes I know Ibanez can play the field but it would be poorly and couldn't Posada catch/play 1B poorly as well?

Yea, unfortunately, this will be the last we've seen of Mo. He threw down too many hints today.
I'm not even going to start thinking of his replacement until after the season, though. Just going to enjoy this last final ride, and pray to god he goes out with another World Series.

I would have rather had Damon, but Ibanez provides a little pop, which is what we need in a DH.
Yep.. and I think Ibanez can play the field a little better than Damon at this point when a guy needs a day off.
Trust me, I know he's nothing special in the field, and probably far from it. But he's not terrible.

Robertson?
That's my initial thought.
He K's at a higher clip than Mo (12 - 8.9) BUT...he also walks more (4.7 - 2.0). His ERA was solid last year and hopefully he'll keep it up. He looked GREAT last season.
Mo's Career
ERA: 2.05
WHIP: 0.969
SO: 1073
SO/BB: 4.21
Saves: 603

Will he be first ballot or do they make him wait because of stigma of closers?

They would be retarded to make him wait.

Eric Chavez = SIGNED
I'm actually starting to like the Burnett trade now, the more I think about it.
Jones/Ibanez make a pretty badass platoon.
Hope Chavez can stay healthy.
and I hope Branyan makes the team and crushes the frick out of that short porch.

Considering Ibanez makes $4-mil tops and Chavez will be around half of that max, I like it.

Pineda
Nova
Kuroda
Garcia
Hughes
We didn't really need AJ anyway.

Andy and Jorge were bad enough for me, being two of my favorite players of all time. Mo? Even worse.

Mo is easily the worst. He has never been controversial AND he's actually had a phenomenal stretch the last 4 years. He's like a fine wine

No doubt about it. Ageless and timeless. I don't see how anyone can hate the guy on any kind of level. He's one of a kind.

I would've preferred Damon...but they picked Ibanez for a reason. Damon has a high price tag and rarely plays the field nowadays.

But he produces more than Ibanez... for some reason I think last years success picking up cheap alternatives has them thinking they can strike gold again...
Like I said 3/4 pages ago, I think those AB's would be better off giving to a younger player who can contribute more to the field and see some MLB pitching. I don't think Ibanez is going to hit all that well after watching him last year.
