Would You Trade the CFB Game of Today for the Game of Say 25+ Years Ago?

And considering the forthcoming 12-team Playoff?

New Year's Day had like five major bowls and depending on how things shook out, 3,4, or 5 teams were all in the running for the natty.

There were no opt outs or transfers before the bowls. And the bowl season offered tons of evenly matched teams.

The big complaint was the NC was so often decided by voters and not on the field. But to some degree, that holds true today.

I think CFB is still a good sport. But after contemplating what it's become, the game of yesterday was far more interesting and exciting.

I know teams paid recruits 35 years ago. I just wish what SMU was doing wasn’t as acceptable as it is now. Not all priests are celibate but at least I can imagine that most of them are pure and charitable.

I would take 25 years ago every time. Can’t stand the way college sports are headed.

Absolutely not

Downvote away. But it's simple minded LSU fans who have catastrophe syndrome bc they don't like the way things sit for LSU today.

BCS was the golden Era of college ball imo. Everyone played in the bowl games. You had 1 vs 2 at the end of the year. No transfer portal. It wasn't perfect but it was much better than the playoff Era with the Era you mention a not to distant second.

We just need CFB to get where its going already to hit equilibrium. Right now it's just a major change happening every 2-4 years and it's constantly in flux.

What needs to hurry up and happen is players need to be employees (it's in the works, it will happen no matter how much people bitch about the good old days), playoff needs to be 16 teams, and conferences need to settle and finalize into what we already know is going to just be the B10 and SEC. Until these things happen, every year is going to feel like things are unfulfilled.

There’s been a wave of incessant complaining by the “back in my day” mouthbreathers lately and I don’t know what has triggered it.

I would take the game around 06-13 with the expanded playoff. I like strong running games with some finesse passing and good defense.

What separated CFB from pro ball was tradition and identity, i.e., "my school, my team, my players."

The game is morphing into double-A NFL. School, team, and players are no longer a unity.

Maybe you can elaborate on why you think it's better now.

You really don't know the true job of a priest.

So having a different opinion than you is simple minded? That’s ironic lol

Football will be reduced to two hand touch soon enough and well before all of the above happens. TPTB will eliminate testosterone one way or another.

Every game this week has been enjoyable until Georgia Florida state. I’ll never stop loving bowl games or college football.

What was LSU football like 25 years ago? What were fans complaining about back then?

No. Forming your opinion based 100% on what is happening surrounding LSU today, while ignoring the success LSU has had in the past, is simple minded. LSU has two less hesiman trophy winners, and one less national title, without transfers. I didn't hear anybody complaining then.

The lack of winning.
