College football 25 years ago was the greatest sport on earth. It’s a shell of what it once was. Pageantry, school pride, intensity, defense…all things that have gone the way of Blockbuster

the game of yesterday was far more interesting and exciting.

Yes indeed. What we are watching now is the law of unintended consequences being played out in real time.

I love the 80s and had no bother with ambiguous polls and no forced, calculated #1 vs. #2 bowl games...

#1 could be playing #7...#2 could be playing #4...it led to so much debate and must-see bowl TV because, what if #1 lost? What if #2 lost?...its why the championship is truly mythical...and there's nothing wrong with that. Look how Miami won the MNC as #4 in the polls over Nebraska.

By trying to make it "un-mythical" for TV purposes and revenue the sport has destroyed itself because the powers that be got too greedy.

There's too many schools/teams to try and decide... Oh, these are the best for an "official champion". No, you just let the bowls play out, everyone has traditional matchups and then you get opinions AFTER the fact...not before.

Yep. 1980 to about 2005-10 was an awesome run for CFB. It's not near as fun these days.

I don’t think so. LSU has done fairly well the last 25 years. And that’s all I care about.

Give me the rules of the game 25 years ago and a 12 team playoff. Let players sign contracts that hold them accountable and encourage them to remain with the program and not opt out of bowls.

I think a hybrid of both then and now is the best way.
