The type of guys I'm talking about are your Justin Fields types. Dude knew Fromm was at UGA and still decided to sign the LOI. Lost the position battle fair and square and then bailed first thing. He easily could have waited and it wouldn't have affected his NFL trajectory in the slightest.

Both guys got to start last year and compete for a national title.

Sounds like a win win all around

So when a kid does it, it’s weakness but when a coach does it, it’s business?

Isn’t making that decision a mature business decision? Doesn’t that just mean they are ahead of the curve?

Of course it’s a ridiculous and illogical take just no one in the media and certainly no athlete calls them on it because it detracts from their narrative, has nothing to do with facts all about getting people to buy a fraud

Yeah that's all great, but just because it worked out doesn't mean it wasn't retarded for the no. 1 QB in the country to sign with a school that had a QB coming back off of national championship appearance with two years of eligibility left and then running away because he didn't start the moment he stepped foot on campus.

Bro where did I say a kid who transfers is weak? I have no issue with student athletes transferring and playing ASAP if it's for a legit reason

Buyouts impede coaching movement in many situations. Not always.

buyouts don’t matter if you really want a coach, and they can get negotiated down

Buyouts matter a lot. Not as much at the absolute highest levels, but they 100 percent impede movement. At lower level P5 schools and G5 schools, buyouts can be a big factor.

Jamie Dixon would be the head basketball coach at UCLA right now if not for his buyout.

And even if the new school pays the buyout, there is not an unlimited amount of funds in most situations. That money comes from the pool of money available to coaches, so either the assistants get less, budgets are reduced, etc. There is no free lunch.

Stupid thread. My only gripe is that most of the time a player chosses s school because of the coach. If that coach ups and leaves, is it fair to the player to have to sit a year and the coach that left does not????

coaches can leave whenever they want with no repercussions" is patently false. Mel Tucker had a $3 million buyout at Colorado.

Name a coach who had to pay their buy out to leave. Mel Tucker didn’t pay that buy out. Coaches also negotiate that buy out into their contract.

There’s no free lunch. That money comes from somewhere. The fact that a buyout exists is a barrier.

And some schools don’t or won’t pay buyouts, which excludes coaches from being candidates and impedes movement.

It’s not insurmountable, but neither is sitting out. Some players also don’t have to sit out.

“QB so-and-so won more titles therefore he’s better than another QB”

As soon as I hear “much rings!” or “titles!” when discussing individual players I know to discount anything that person has to say about sports.

They're students and amateurs and ought to be able to transfer at will. Let's not pretend the schools are actually loyal to the athletes long term. They'll be discarded and forgotten if severely injured or they don't own out talent wise. Let them do what they think is best for their own personal and future career development without losing eligibility.

On the other hand, the NCAA and conferences should continue to be able to restrict teams ability to recruit active players and prohibit the teams from playing transfers immediately. Sitting out a season is improperly framed as a punishment for the player but they get another academic year, practices and benefits. It's actually a restriction on who the team can play. Don't like it don't transfer or graduate first.

You’re screaming at the sky bro. I’m just saying that comparing players to coaches is a horrible analogy.
