That victory on a day when the temperature hit 103 degrees in L.A. was in front of a packed stadium of over 54,250 fans and a big television audience watching on Fox. By big however, we do not mean as big as Fox had likely hoped nor as big as it could potentially have been if it was the New York Yankees taking on the Dodgers.

In metered market ratings, the primetime 2017 World Series Game 1 scored a 10.2/17.

With no Vin Scully in the booth and no protests on the field or otherwise during the national anthem, that’s down 19% from last year’s World Series opener of October 25, 2016 when the Chicago Cubs lost to the Cleveland Indians. Stinging a bit more, last night’s opener was also down 3% from 2015 when the Kansas City Royals beat the New York Mets on October 27 of that year.

Odd, I thought only the NFL was down these days.

this is where i thump my chest about how great I am for boycotting this league because the President made a big stink about something just to stick it to the owners who stopped him from buying a team.

Being down compared to the last year with the Cubs isn't surprising.

Being down 3% for the year prior is a little surprising, but 3% is pretty small.

Alcs game 7 was the highest cs game in like 7 years and highest rated telecast in fs1 history

Wonder if it has anything to do with DirecTV cutting out FS1. I know friends with Directv came to our place to watch.

Everyone wanted to watch the Cubs last year.

As much as people don't want to admit it, the Astros have very little national appeal.

3% is negligible.

Ratings were still high.

No East Coast team is the reason for the slight decline.

Ratings were way higher in the western half of the US last night than last year’s WS.

Still boggles my mind that Houston is considered a small market team.

Had a lot of friends who were pretty mad because they couldn't watch the game on DirectTV. How many people have directTV that were affected and could not watch? I bet that had a pretty good impact.

Yeah, you'd think LA/Houston would be a bigger draw than NY/Kansas City.

ETA - After a bit more research, Game 1 in 2015 was a 14 inning affair, giving it a slight boost in ratings. Game 1 last night beat WS Game 1s from 2010-2014. That's not bad at all.

Would you? And again, 3% is marginal.

He wouldn't have been on the national broadcast anyway.
