I think he could get a better job, but he gets a conference upgrade and easy recruiting.

Tulane is a ‘football school’

They started claiming it this week

What coach would leave a ‘football school’ for a shite program in a non-Power 3 conference like Houston????

It's been funny to see all the Tulane shirts out of the blue in Nola.

Tulane administration does very little financially to support their athletic programs. The higher ups are more concerned with promoting academics.

The most recent AD Troy Dannen left for Washington, and the administration had a list of 12 candidates. Due to their great working relationship, Fritz publicly supported the current Tulane deputy AD Kortne Gosha for the AD position. Tulane chose to hire someone else as Fritz decided it was time to move on. He wants to coach at a University that truly supports CFB. What Fritz has done at Tulane is remarkable given what he has to work with. He never felt respected or appreciated for what he did.

I really don’t understand Tulane. They might be the dumbest “smart” school of all time.

Houston is objectively a better program and obviously willing to put more resources into football. Has a large area to recruit from with tons of talent and lower academic standards.

I can understand Willie leaving, just not to Houston. That's a minor step up at best, you could easily argue it's a lateral move.

He should've waited a bigger job to pen.

Letting your FB coach that interviews for other jobs every offseason pick your AD is a long-term loser move.

Under appreciated? How many schools are bringing back a sub-.500 coach coming off a 10 loss season for year 7? Because that’s what Willie was two years ago.

I don’t normally stick up for Tulane but we need more schools that prioritize academics over athletics, the way college should be before the insane amounts of money corrupted college football. Gotta give them respect for the balance they have between Academics and athletics while still being able to have the occasional great seasons and remain competitive. Hate all you want but that is similar to what UL has done in Lafayette as a public university, improving academics and still competitive at a relatively high level in athletics. Not everyone has to be or should be modeling after LSU.

Willie was at 2.8M. UH previous coach was at 4.2M. Willie is 63 years old. Get a nice contract at UH, then ride off into the sunset

Better facilities, more money and booster support, more local talent, $32MM per school in TV contract vs. $7MM per school in AAC

Do y’all even follow college football?

So a school can’t be both? There are plenty of great institutions that also place an emphasis on sports.

More Money, more resources, and in his 60's. Also think he has children/grandchildren living there.

It’s been funny

Good for Tulane to have folks hopping on their bandwagon. I’m sure having a competitive program has been a positive thing for Uptown New Orleans as well. People making fun of that are likely the types to cry when their team loses on Saturday.
