What coach would leave a ‘football school’ for a shite program in a non-Power 3 conference like Houston????

May as well just narrow down to P2 now.

Pac12 is gone
B12 has no power teams left
ACC adding Stanford, Cal & SMU isn’t going to help their undefeated teams SOS.

we need more schools that prioritize academics over athletics, the way college should be before the insane amounts of money corrupted college football. Gotta give them respect for the balance they have between Academics and athletics while still being able to have the occasional great seasons and remain competitive. Hate all you want but that is similar to what UL has done in Lafayette as a public university, improving academics and still competitive at a relatively high level in athletics. Not everyone has to be or should be modeling after LSU

... this is exactly right ...

but there is also a snag in the system that amplified the problem of sports/money getting out of control. That is the NIL...

Tulane does not want to get caught up in that whirlpool of constantly handing money out hand over fist to compete in sports

Willy Fritz is a great coach and did open the door to great achievement last year. I wish coach Fritz the best.

But the NIL is a beast and it shifts control away from the University

Tulane did not want to get caught up in that whirlpool ...

Houston in not in the ole SWC any longer. I don’t understand this “lateral move “ to UH at this point in coach Willie Fritz life. More money ? I think Willie should have stayed at Tulane.

Are you trolling? They just had their first back to back 10 win foobtall season EVER. And it was their 3rd 10 win season in program history.

In baseball they went from a consistent post season team with the occasional trip to omaha in the early 2000s to an easy mid week win fighting to be .500.

In basketball they also haven't mad ethe tourney in ages and suck year in and year out.

Now they let the first football coach to have a pulse in New Orleans since 1999 leave for a slight step up instead of bending over backwards to keep a good thing going.

Where is this balance that allows them to remain competetive?

I would take a 50% raise for my last few years of working

Houston is objectively a better program

They’re not. If they were the previous coach wouldn’t be fired and they wouldn’t be hiring Fritz

Toolame a “football school”.
Fritz is smart enough to know that even Houston is a better job.

Houston has Tilman Fertitta's money and if he does well, he'll do anything to keep Willie around.

If he does well for two years, he’ll make a bigger jump.
