re: Will there ever be a greater pitcher than Nolan Ryan in the modern era?

Can you judge people with different arm slots against each other? How about people that do not have a ton of high stress pitching situations?
Pitchers all have different styles and staminas. Schilling is well known to have pitch longer than necessary, but how do you accurately quantify that?

I do have one question, what if this back injury ruins Kershaw and he is never the same again? Would you still think that? I can't justify saying a guy who was elite for like 7-8 years but called it quits is better than someone who performed at a high level for 27-years like Nolan did

They certainly wouldn't be inducted into the hall-of-fame if their careers ended before age 30.

If Kershaw never pitched again he would NOT get into the HOF. Sorry. He is very very good but not ahOF yet.

I think it would be a Koufax type situation. The dude is obviously amazing.

I don't know shite about baseball in like 1915, but did Koufax win a World Series?
I think Kershaw would get in if he for some reason never played again and was successful in the postseason and had a ring.

Please point to me all of the 3x Cy young, 4x era champs, pitching triple crown winners with an MVP that have missed out on the HOF. The only way he would miss out is if the writers didn't want him in because of some stupid unwritten rule

Lol okay, that's pretty difficult to rebuttle.

Nolan is the Chuck Norris of baseball players.
Coincidence they both were Texas Rangers?![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/icons/shrug.gif)

era of 0.95 in 57 innings pitched.
in 8 games, zero errors in the field.
9.6 K's per 9 innings.
1.74 walks per 9 innings
they won the WS in 1963 and 1965

Would you vote Johan Santana or Roy halladay into the Hall?

His resume is better than both ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/icons/shrug.gif)

That's exactly right. Koufax only had like 5 good years. The first half of his career stunk. Still, he sailed through on the first ballot.

Nolan was great no doubt about it

K is a predictive stat. It's basically an out and a a no hitter has equal value of shutout.
Stats guys overrate Ryan. He's behind Carlton, Gibson, Seaver and several others.

HAHAHAHA Nolan Ryan is like 30 games over 500 in his career.
Wait, you actually use Ws as a measuring device for pitchers???
Posted on 7/22/16 at 3:31 pm to McCaigBro69
Not saying he wasn't a HoF guy but was even the best pitcher of his own era for more than a year or two- I hear that Steve Carlton was a way bigger bad arse from people around for both.

Late in the season, Gibson struck out richie Allen and johnny Callison with based loaded, back to back, twice in same game, for what turned out to be the pennant winning margin. 1 game.
Callison and Allen each homered for the 2 - 1 NL all star win. Gibson was the man that year. gibson is top ten pitchers of all time.
