They were usually in the top 5-10 conversation every year but not Alabama's level. Plus when they were good they only had one tough opponent every year (Oklahoma) but would always shite the bed against A$M or Okie Dok State.

They never were. The closest would be Miami 1983-1992 (they could've easily won 8 titles) and FSU's top 5 run (which still only produced 2 titles).

The fact that Alabama has had they run they've had leads many of us to believe they are doing shady things. Do you all really believe a small Southern state can produce a team like Alabama every year?

Texas can do what Alabama does without cheating given where they are.

Just you all wait. Alabama will be found out cheating. No school in the 85 scholarship era with the tv revenue that is distributed equally among conference members can win the way Alabama is winning without cheating.

I don't think you all realize how much the 85 scholarship era has led to much more parity in college football. You can't have 110 young men on scholarship anymore. You used to be able to do that. The tv revenue is spread more equally especially in conferences like the SEC, Big Ten and ACC.

Yes, thanks to demographics and the existence of television and automobiles.

Yes everyone used to have unlimited scholarships, now everyone has a limit. It's so much more equal.

Are the Nick Sabans spread equally? You made no mention of the people involved with the programs? Bama is run absolutely by a highly skilled and driven dictator. Texas is run by a gaggle of incompetent loose money boosters. Honestly Texas is probably dirtier than Alabama right now

Saban has the bama boosters and influence-peddlers in line. It's his way or the highway. See how bama was previously with people putting money in for recruits and then arguing about them getting playing time and trying to go around the coach.

Texas has the same problem, except their boosters have a lot more money and are used to a lot more influence -- AND they all think they know football.

Also, once Texas gets 1-2 losses their fans bail on them.

Bottom line, uTexas needs a strong leader who will get everyone in line, but I doubt they get that. They may be beyond the past of being able to get that.

Not with Herman as coach or even Mack Brown.

At their best Texas is an elite team chasing a national championship every 3 years are so.

Alabama had three poll titles and the most wins in the 1970s.
