or does having too many TX schools make that a lot more difficult?

because schools like rice and tech and smu are getting in their way

the problem is finding the right coach. which isnt a problem singular to them. finding the right coach is really hard in football. they had one in mack. it was his time to go, and now they have to find a new coach who is the right man at the right time. thats really hard to find. some schools never find one, theyve been lucky enough to have found two. doesnt change anything about how difficult it is though

I'm not being sarcastic, but when was this? I'm 31, and I don't remember them ever being on Alabama's level.

I just looked it up to see when they've won national titles. I see they won 3 between 63 and 70.

Agreed, when did this ever occur? I know the 50s were about Oklahoma, maybe the 60s but there was so much parity in college football that period that its almost offset to a degree in terms of dynasty, the 70s were basically ruled by USC, 80s Miami, 90s Nebraska, 00s Miami/USC

They've pretty much been Les Miles LSU level. They'll win 10 games every year and will be in the national title race every now and then.

Austin is too liberal and has too liberal of an alumni base to throw all morals to the wind to win every football game they can. They have other interests.

They have boosters that have tons of money, but Alabama has an army of inbreds that shoot their kin over the Tide losing games. Its a different animal. Alabama cares about football. That's fricking it.

Their big money boosters are not liberal and I can assure you putting money into recruiting, inside and outside the rules, has never been the issue. Recruiting in general has never been the issue. They just need to find the right coach

I covered this part.

But the under 40 alumni are not soul selling to win games like Bama folks. They aren't hate fricking their sisters when they lose their 1 game a year.

It just feels different

ETA:

I am friends with 4 or 5 Texas alums that DO NOT GIVE A frick about their football program, even though they love college football. They remind me of UVA fans or something, where they wear the colors and say RA RA at the games a couple times a year, but move along in life afterwards.

Every single one of my Bama friends needs therapy when they lose a game.

So I admit I'm coming at this anecdotally.

You think under 40 alums for Miami and USC were selling their soul to win games? There are plenty of schools in the south that are hardcore about football. The difference between Bama and the others is they have Saban and the others don’t

Give Texas a Saban/Dabo/Meyer and the stuff you’re talking about is irrelevant

And I agree with you by the way. For a big college fanbase overall they are pretty apathetic. They have well monied alums though who care deeply and always will. I just don’t think it’s that important

Texas has 32 Conference Championships and Alabama has 30.

And this was when Southwest was considered way better football than the SEC.

Modern SEC is not your 60's and 70's SEC.

I think even Ol' Bear would have admitted it back then during his days with A&M.

Not Bama, but they could dominate the Big12 soon.

Really bad coaching, leadership, and recruiting has hurt them.

Texas is not and never has been on the same level as what Bama is right now. I do think it is the one place that would be a better job for someone like Nick Saban though. Just because locking down the state of Texas on top of national recruiting would be a scary sight and texas would also pay him top dollar.

There was never a period where this was anywhere near as competitive as the SEC. Not in the 50s and early 60s, when LSU, Auburn and Ole Miss were national contenders. Not in the 60s and 70s when Bama dominated but most of the rest of the Big 6 had solid coaches and were competitive. Not in the 80s when it was Georgia and Auburn. Not in the 90s with Bama and Florida. Never. The SWC was an absolute joke, a garbage one team conference, much worse than even the Big 2 and Little 8 up in the Midwest. I mean outside of Texas Arky had a little run in the 60s and SMU cheated their balls off in the 80s and THAT'S IT. It was garbage

You're too young to remember and you're from California. You don't have to front because you're an Aggie. Come on

Sounds like you know too many tu fans if you think they were ever on Bama’s level.

I didn't need to be around for it. The level of shenanigans and tomfoolery that came from that conference is unmatched and that solidifies it as the GOAT.

I wish it was still around and A&M was still in it
