One problem I see is that MLB teams make their bread on regional tv markets.
For like 40% of the season a Louisiana baseball team would be competing for eyes with LSU baseball. And i just dont see enough people choosing a new MLB team over watching the Tigers
In the same vein you have a limited number of potential viewers for a regional market. You go less than 100 miles west and you are in Astros or Rangers regional market. Go less than 100 miles east and you are in the Braves regional market.

The Zephyrs were great when Rob Couhig was in charge. They only made the playoffs two or 3 times but they were usually competitive and the games were a lot of fun. Tickets were cheap,!concessions were good.
I spent many summer nights watching them in high school and college.
Zephyr Field was, when built, the nicest or second nicest park in the minors (you could argue the Redbirds field in Memphis was the best). But they never made improvements and over time the stadium went downhill.
The last 5 years the franchise was run horribly. The name change was idiotic and drive a way a lot of local support. And being tied to the crap Marlins did not help
The failure of that franchise was 80 percent the crappiness of ownership and 20 percent the state not reinvesting in the stadium.

It would be cool if Louisiana got a legit minor league team again. I am talking about a single-A or double-A team affiliated with one of the MLB teams. Not sure which town would support it best... probably the Shreveport area.

What happened to the stadium?

From the outside looking in it seems like a lot of people in the state love baseball, hence the question
Hell, we can't keep a minor league team financially viable. We've had what----2 minor league teams leave the N.O. area over the years. The Pelicans and then the Zephyrs, renamed the "Baby Cakes"-----an all-time awful name for a sports team by the way.
I see no way N.O. can support 3 professional sports teams.

You don't have a large central population base to make it work. Most big league cities are much larger than any city in LA. The NOLA "metro" area is to spread out to make it viable; the drive into the city from the North Shore and River Parishes would be miserable for weeknight games.

does the state/city make or lose money on the Pelicans?

I have no idea since I don't follow basketball in any way, shape or form. On a guess, I'd say they must be making some money or they would be long gone from here and into a more profitable market.
But there's no doubt that the Saints rule the professional market and are well supported by the citizens of this area.
However, if the current staff doesn't right the ship soon, we may be going back to the days of home game blackouts and empty seats in the Dome.
