The closest thing Louisiana had was the double AA Shreveport captains and they were good most years and had good local support but even they couldn’t last

What? If there is enough on Sundays for 70,000, there is enough for 34,000 to 40,000.

That's what I was wondering.

Went to a few Shreveport Captains games back in the day.

From the outside looking in it seems like a lot of people in the state love baseball, hence the question

They do, but you’re not going to turn a bunch of Astros and Braves fans into anything else.

They'd have to build a domed stadium or play in the superdome and I don't see either of things being a reality.

New Orleans doesn’t have enough corporate dollars to support 3 pro franchises. The fan base isn’t there.

People would care about an MLB team.

No but the south east probably needs another team.

Was bought by Lou Schwechheimer, who never intended to keep them here. He was involved with a group that (during the second term of the Obama administration when relations with Cuba were being normalized) was working to bring a minor league team to Havana in the near future.

Bringing MiLB to Cuba

First thing he did after buying the team was hold a sham "Rename the team" contest and renamed the team the Baby Cakes.

He made a lot of national money of new merch sales, but pissed off the locals. He also did things like remove water fountains from Zephyr Field and switched a lot of paid staffers to unpaid interns and volunteers.

Attendance plummeted. Trump was elected in 2016, and with no Hillary to continue Obama's policy of the normalized relations with Cuba, that idea was shot.

Schwechheimer worked out a deal to move the team to Wichita, which was working on building a new AAA level stadium and trying to get a MiLB franchise for it. He had time left on his New Orleans lease, but the LSED Commission didn't do a damned thing about it, basically let him go.

They were supposed to play their 1st season in Wichita in 2020, the COVID year. The whole minor league season was canceled that year. During that break, major league baseball took over minor league baseball, eliminating teams and re-assigning others.

The Wichita team was downgraded from AAA level to AA.

And Lou Schwechheimer, the team's owner? Died of COVID.

Karma's a bitch.

Charlotte should have a team, but they don't seem to have a group pushing for it the way Nashville has. Montreal and Orlando are the only more populated places without a team.

Actually, 1993 to 2019.

1993 to 1996 they played at Privateer Field at UNO. Moved into the new ballpark on Airline in 1997.

Played their last game in metro New Orleans in 2019; there was no minor league baseball season in 2020 (COVID).

First part of their existence they were in the American Association; when the AAA leagues were re-shuffled from 3 down to 2 they wound up in the PCL (1998).

This is exclusively an LSU/Louisiana problem.

Agreed though yes totally strange.

Seems that Louisiana loves baseball. I'm guessing it's enough that there are the Astros or the Braves

Charlotte has the Knights, triple A affiliate of the White Sox. Nice ballpark in downtown.
