You have some pretty insane standards for what qualifies and as a good NFL career

I’d be all in on Dak on the Pats. Hes not in the top tier but he’s really fricking good
If we got Dak I'd be a little irritated but wouldn't hate it, and there's always the chance I just watch his bad games, but I've never been super impressed.

How exactly?
russell wilson is the big prize. jerry is ready to risk it all, all the time. this is known.
i also have this gut feeling that they get the fla TE instead of the defense they so desperately need because, jerry

You should be running in the streets in celebration if the Pats found a way to get Dak

By the start of next season, Dak will be a 28 year old QB with one single playoff win and coming off a major injury. He's a good, not great QB that is definitely behind the following guys on the QB totem pole:
Tom Brady
Russell Wilson
Aaron Rodgers
Patrick Mahomes
Josh Allen
Deshaun Watson
I'd argue he's also behind Justin Herbert and maybe Kyler Murray after the seasons they had. Keeping all that in mind, I can't justify making him one of the highest paid QBs in the league, much less all time. However, if his ultimate plan is to get paid and still get out of Dallas, he's playing his cards perfectly.

He's trying to get Mahomes money and just isn't worth that.
By all reports, he is trying to get the next tier down money. Teams have to pay market rate for QBs. He is a fringe Top 10 QB. Those guys get Mahomes-lite money on the open market. Some team will pay Dak next year if he doesn’t get the long term deal

Only way Seattle would do a trade like you’re describing is if they had a long term deal in place with Dak before it went through
So it’s exactly the same situation for Dak. Either pay him an insane amount or he will wait it out until he can hit FA

None of this has anything to do with his value.
Argue all you want about what you view him as at QB, but if he hit the open market he would destroy the record for largest contract in NFL history.
Dak isn’t overvaluing himself, he’s simply valuing himself at market value instead of what the Cowboys have valued him at so far
Kirk cousins is the only mid level QB to ever hit the open market with no strings and he got a fully guaranteed contract. Dak is much better than Cousins, the numbers would be insane if he hits FA

i like how RtB said 28, like Dak doesn't have 5-10 years of his prime left

I don't mind starting Stidham and just sucking horrendously enough to be within striking distance of a #1 pick.

Dak is not Watson. That injury would stop any insane idea I had about throwing stupid-type money at him. If someone else on the open market has such an inclination, so be it. I would also be maneuvering myself in this year's draft for a QB. Move up and get one of the first-round suspects and count your blessings. Something that Dallas should have thought about for the last 2 seasons.

There is the market rate for a starting NFL quarterback so the pay is what it is. With the cowboys team being worth so much you would think they could afford to give me a big one or two year deal. Maybe Dak wants a long term deal with a huge upfront bonus.

I mean I'm not economically stupid, I get market rates.
I also understand at some point 8-20 level QBs taking up massive amounts of cap space will have its bubble burst.

Dakota is going to get between 90 and 100M guaranteed now it is the years they are arguing about I feel.
It would not surprise me to see Dak eventually get 125 guaranteed on the open market next year if it goes there. Cowboy fans have been saying he would get more than what this board has tried to claim he would.

Bill ain’t doing that at his age after watching Brady win a super bowl
Also there’s not really a whole lot in the draft crop for next season. Some guys will rise to the top but there isn’t that sure fire #1 guy for next season

$37 mil for any player is just stupid.......

bullshite.
He is a hobbled, one read QB who benefits greatly from an easy offensive scheme filled with underneath passes and dump offs. If the cowboys sink a lot of cap space on dak, they can get used to being mediocre
I hope they do

Not if it is what the market dictates it to be.

I'm super interested to see what we do. Bill doesn't want to tank, but Bill also will not pay top dollar for non-top talent (unless he thinks they can be top talent). If I had to guess, he's hoping Wilson or Lance makes it to 5-8 and he swoops down and grabs one.
