The Lebron story is the ultimate test. If you say "there's not enough evidence for me to be certain it happened", ok fine. If your angle is "Lebron staged it all to play the racist card" then you probably enjoy Clay Travis.

Those tweets kind of say it all. Look at the ratings the last 10 years vs the 10 years before, the NBA is way up.

I mean it’s still down significantly from where it was. I will say that Travis makes it sound like no one watches it all and that isn’t the case. The NBA is very healthy in its current state, especially amongst younger people.

I do think a lot of people my age and older have somewhat lost interest in the league. It’s definitely a younger crowd their targeting.

I don’t watch until the postseason and even then it’s only for the marquee matchups. I used to watch the Mavs religiously when I was younger, but this was during the middle of the MJ era.

One of the most common criticisms I hear now from older people is how the players are all friends now. There aren’t very many rivalries where the guys legit hate each other like there were 15-20 years ago.

The only thing threatening the league even remotely is the tv deal with ESPN and TNT and what follows when it ends

No L to take bro. Convos like this are entirely why this message board exists.

I enjoy reading what others think.

It's also significantly up, just depends where you compare it to. In the 90's there were what, 25-40 channels to realistically choose from. Now there are 200, Netflix, and all sorts of other entertainment options. The NFL has been immune to that, the NBA fell and is now rising again.

Good point. I didn’t even think of that.

Full disclosure, I think him, jemele hill, and barstool are my three most disliked members of sport media. It's hard for me not to be biased for those and it shows sometimes

Eta: forgot to add deadspin

I don’t follow Travis that closely but I think he picks on the nba because the sjw sports media fawns over the league and refuses to report negatively on it while looking for every excuse to bash the nfl or mlb. It’s just another way for him to stick it to them because they hate him so much.

Calling leftists out on their bullshite doesn’t make someone racist or even conservative.

It's also far and away the biggest and most popular league in the world's 2nd most popular sport. Anynone claiming the NBA is on any kind of a downswing is hilariously uninformed.

But none of those countries are footing any relevant amount of the massive bill the salaries and revenue share bring. ESPN and TNT won’t be able to keep increasing prices to carry their channels because of chord cutters. It will either stagnate or players will have to take a pay cut of some kind.

NBA China now worth more than $4 billion, or $133 million in value for each team. Look at the Tencent deal. The league singed a $700 million, 5-year deal with the Chinese Internet and tech company in 2015 for Tencent to carry NBA games and other content on its digital platforms.

What would you imagine the NBA made in China 20 years go? How about 20 years from now? Do other North American sports leagues project that level of growth internationally in the short to medium term future? What kind of growth prospects do the NFL and MLB have in the United States?

That is chump change compared to the $2.6 billion the NBA gets from ESPN and TNT a year.

That Chinese deal annually basically pays for Mike Conley’s contract

Both the Super Bowl and World Series have had higher ratings than the NBA Finals over the last three years. I don’t think they have much to worry about.

That's a little too much caring about a dude's opinion you don't care about.

I didn’t say they had anything to worry about, but they’re isn’t a ton of domestic growth in either league nor is international growth anywhere near the NBA’s.

How? The whole situation was about an alleged racist incident. Is he supposed to not talk about the race aspect? That makes no sense to me.

Fair enough. You like who you like and hate who you hate. I'm the same with other pundits I guess.

Wasn't trying to give you an L or anything. Was just trying to understand the thought process.

Sorry for my late response. Hosting one of my college buddies this weekend at the crib so we've been catching up. All of my Corps buddies are parents now. It's crazy

I think he was more highlighting that Travis was insinuating, if not outright stating, that I was basically a false flag operation my Lebron.

But I think we he did regarding the Greg Schiano hiring at UTK was downright despicable. It’s one thing to try to get them to withdraw their offer because of his football coaching ability, it was another thing to use to manipulate the situation by linking Schiano to Sandusky’s sexual abuse of children.
