I haven't even thought about that.

I'm it's just the top 4 with one more spot available for the "BCS bowls" for a qualifying team not in the 6 major conferences.

Aside from that, I think it's more like it used to be with the bowls picking the matchups they want (largely based on conference tie-ins).

Like the playoff or not, the one thing that has seemed likely from the people like Mandel at SI.com that have been doing "what if" scenarios is that there may be less crappy matchups that there have been with the BCS.

So either stubhub had tickets below face value or Oklahoma State who gave them to Baylor for face value turned and tried to sell them for more than face value.... which one are you gonna go with?

We had to return tickets by 7/1. No one expected Baylor to win 10+ games this season back in July, not even the most optimistic Baylor fan.

We returned 3,000 tickets on July 1. After Ok State lost to WVU, ticket prices fell fell fell. At that point Baylor was on the rise. Ticket prices online where much cheaper than before so many Baylor fans bought tickets online at that point for a price much lower than face value.

I could give a shite how many went to the game though. Baylor gets good and all you hear from other teams is that they are a "dirty/classless" team and "we don't have the fan support like they do"(No shite we are a small private school).

Baylor has no excuses for a poor traveling fanbase, if TCU can bring 30k to the Fiesta Bowl and 35k to the Rose Bowl no reason why Baylor can't bring that much to a BCS game. Baylor has a larger enrollment than TCU

I haven't even thought about that.

The top three are guaranteed one (the "98 Kansas State" rule).

I think they would bring that number to a game. The most prestigious Bowl they have played in is the Alamo Bowl so it is all speculation how many tickets they would sell to the Orange Bowl.

It's not just the number of fans they bring but how they would spend their money. It used to be said of Baylor fans, that they brought the ten commandments and a ten dollar bill to the Sugar Bowl and didn't break either.

s this because of them getting first choice of a replacement at-large for Florida State?

Yes.

They absolutely don't deserve it, though.

The Orange is under no obligation to take an ACC school if FSU winds up in the title game.

Once the games are over this weekend, the selection process works like this:

1. The No. 1 and 2 teams in the final poll are slotted into the championship game.

2. The bowl that loses the No. 1-ranked team picks its replacement.

3. The bowl that loses the No. 2-ranked team picks its replacement.

4. At-large picks are selected in this order: Orange, Sugar Fiesta (Rose will have either Pac 12-Big 10 or Pac-12 at large if OSU is in the title game).

Assuming FSU and OSU win and finish 1-2 and Baylor, Oklahoma State and NIU win, things will probably shake out like this:

1. Orange picks Alabama to replace FSU.

2. Rose picks Michigan State to replace OSU.

3. Orange picks either UCF, Baylor or Clemson to face Bama

4. Sugar picks one of the two left to face the SEC winner

5. Fiesta has NIU playing Oklahoma State

If the Orange picks Clemson or Baylor, the other one is out because UCF and NIU are guaranteed the last two spots. If it picks UCF, one of the two goes to New Orleans and I think that'll be Baylor. NIU still winds up in the Fiesta.

Idk man, UCF might be the last team picked because the bowl that picks NIU at least will be able to hype the Jordan Lynch angle.

UCF is not very appealing, how well do they travel?

why?

don't they have to be ranked higher than a BCS conference champion to get auto bids?

*ETA: forgot about UCF being in the former Big East

Everybody please stop responding with anything that contradicts this. This is nothing new.

The Sugar Bowl would take 10-2 Mississippi State over 11-1 Clemson if they could.

The Rose Bowl would take 10-2 Washington State over 11-1 Oklahoma if given the choice.

Bowl committees should invite and select whomever they please for whatever reason suits them. They're the ones who put all the work into organizing these events; who the hell are we to tell them how to run things?

I think the real question should be "why the frick is Northern Illinois getting a BCS bowl berth ahead of either of these teams.

I thought that is what they said about Ole Miss fans?

That's how it's going to shake out, except the Orange Bowl can really pick Bama or Clemson in either order because they know the Rose Bowl is going B1G 10. I guess maybe Northern Illinois goes in front of UCF, but not likely. I have to imagine even with the Jordan Lynch angle that UCF can bring in more fans, especially to New Orleans.

a player isn't gonna help you get in a better bowl game... when Baylor had RG3 the Sugar Bowl passed them over

Makes sense... what if Mich State drops out of the top 14 after the B1G championship?

Orange picks Bama to replace FSU
Given the choice between Baylor or Clemson, who would the Rose pick to replace Ohio State?

Clemson's strength of schedule and conference compared to that of Baylor's.

Oh, and congrats to me on my first post!
