Because traditionally the best players don't leave the team they were drafted by to play for a team that is already loaded. It is happening more and more now, because just like organizations, players ain't loyal.

Also, people can hate on KD all they want. Call Golden State a super team or whatever. At least they are acting like a bunch of spoiled, petulant children like the heat were when LeHairline went there. Nor did they have a pep rally when they signed KD. KD didn't start all the not 2, 3, or 4 shite. KD stfu, put in his work, and led his team to the ship.

Sports fans use arbitrary reasons to arrive at most of their conclusions. There's no consistency to it. It's just if things go against the way they want then they find the justification afterwards.

I like to judge athletes on their accomplishments, taking into account reasonable expectations. I like KD well enough, but for me, he's pretty much relegated himself to "that guy who was AMAZING," without much legacy.

Maybe legacy is the wrong word, but unless something changes, he'll have no lasting memories/moments with me.

For comparison, Lebron has MANY. Some even bad. But he's got them.

This move took the fun out of following KD's career progression.

I can't speak for most but most hate on WHERE Durant went, not because he went. This premise is entirely flawed. For the hardcore NBA fans, it's a big frick you to their team's chances at competitive balance. For the casual fans, dude went and joined a 73 win team who just choked away the Finals. Not exactly a bold career decision.

if he had gone to say the Knicks i dont think anyone would have batted an eyelash

the perception is that he took the easy way out to get a title which is unbecoming of whats supposed to be the 2nd best player in the league

Correct. Those guys that DO bounce have traditionally done so for a bigger pay check, and they've been blasted for it as long as there's been free agency.

The question becomes...in a world where free agency is the norm, which is seen in a better light? A guy who takes more money to go to a lesser team regardless of whether or not he can legitimately win a title there, or a guy that takes less money to play for a team with a better shot at winning it all?

I'm taking the latter, even if some see it as weakness. I don't. For most guys staying put isn't the option it was decades ago, so if leaving is in the cards I'd prefer a guy to leave to go somewhere that he can win (showing me he's more interested in the big picture than his own personal stat line) as opposed to some place where he can cash the bigger check and be the big fish in the small pond even while his team gets fricking smashed.

Only 3 or 4 nba teams have a legit shot every year. Why would a Utah fan care where Durant went? They aren't beating the warriors either way

Well what if he went to Utah?

I think him going Washington would have been AWESOME.

Utah, a team on the rise who was a top 5 seed in the West, surely cares that their path of going through the Warriors now includes Kevin Durant because of the lack of cap smoothing. As a Pels fan, there's a voice in my head that wonders what's the point of next season even though we have a very intriguing team with Davis and Cousins, a combo potentially capable of being a kryptonite to the Durantless Warriors if everything broke perfectly. Even as an NBA fan, I just witnessed Lebron friggin James and a very good supporting class get mauled in the Finals. That same voice says what's the point of next year at all for any team? Are we to the point where injury is the only thing capable of stopping this team?

If you are a fan of the game itself you gotta love it. If you are fan of only one team and it's not GSW well you won't like it. Personally I am more a fan of hoops and the league as a whole than of any particular team and I love watching GSW do their thing.

The warriors won 73 games without KD the year before , if he hadn't signed they would have just kept Barnes , Bogut, Speights and Ezeli and been the faves again.

We remember rings, the guys that join teams that were already poised to win one are the most logical guys in the room, not Durants fault that Paul George or Jimmy Butler didn't demand a trade to GS. They're not on Durant's skill level without a doubt but if either one had joined GS the assumption of a finals appearance would've been the same.

It's gorgeous basketball. Kerr and co. don't get enough credit (neither probably does Durant). They taught a dude how to play team basketball in a year that had been with Russell Westbrook nearly his whole career. That transition was seamless. That team is downright filthy. It was really fun to watch for ONE season.

I've had my fun, gotten to see what the pinnacle of super teams would play like on BOTH ends of the floor. Now let's go back to regular basketball where occasionally upsets happen and top seeds get dethroned or get stuck in tough playoff battles.

Do you think you guys could have beaten them if Kawhi and Tony don't get hurt ?

Nah. I called GS in 5 before the series started. Of course, I think we'd have pushed them. Hell, maybe pushed them to the brink based on Game 1 before #frickZaza happened. But we're still 1 piece away IMO. We ask too much of Kawhi IMO.

I agree staying isn't the option it was years ago. Especially now, every player wants max money, and every player wants to be a brand. That's what the NBA is about now. I don't have a problem with a guy like Durant moving on. He spend his first two contracts with the Sonics/Thunder. I wouldn't want him to stick around, like Kevin Garnett, even though he had much more success than KG had with the Wolves.

I also don't really care for players in the NBA moving aroung because of money, because of guaranteed contracts. Even the last guy on the bench gets paid. NFL guys, I have no problem with them moving to get paid.

There's nothing a sports fan loves more than comparing one guys resume with another. It's hard to do that with KD knowing he jumped on a 73 win team, with an MVP and a title. And it was team he had a 3-1 lead on.

It's weird see an athlete join his direct competition.

I rooted for KD for years, don't hate him, but that's the reality of the situation. It's a bummer he made such a concrete decision to go into a situation that was signicantlh easier than anything he's played in. Just my 2 cents.

They didn't even win last season, and were taken to game 7 in the WCF, it's hardly a guarantee that they would have won this season.
