Why should any power 5 agree to play Notre Dame?

They need to be forced to join a conference in all sports like everyone else or be at the mercy of the selection committee for an at large bid. Imagine you play and beat them in the regular season and you finish ahead of them and get bumped because they are guaranteed a spot if they are in the top twelve next year. Total stupidity!

It’s good for the sport when ND plays USC, Michigan, and Michigan St. Beyond that, frick them and their chicken shite schedule.

I really don’t get the hate for them not being in a conference. Their independence was to their detriment this year. It cuts both ways.
What I don’t support is the guaranteed spot that others don’t get.

quote:Exactly. If they were to join a conference and have as much at stake in the occasional marquee game as the other blue bloods, I would agree that it’s good for the sport. Until then, they are a fly by night, illegitimately hyped draft dodger. They are Lonzo Ball if he were a college football program.

Uh, do you not see that the sole reason they get a guaranteed spot is because they're independent?
I have no problem with them being independent, but they need to deal with the consequences of such. This kicking and screaming tour they've been going on is exactly why people are starting to be done with it.

I love how so many people here bitch and moan about how this modern era of college football has destroyed tradition while, at the same time, they are advocating for the destruction of tradition. Notre Dame has been an independent program since its inception in 1887.

Both Army and Navy won national championships and Heisman's but that's not happening again

That’s like asking why any power 5 would agree to play any top-notch program. Which, if you’re Texas I guess, is a fair question.

Not an issue. ND would be moved to #13. Miami was put ahead of ND by the committee. Even further, if Miami played FAU instead of ND, they would’ve finished around #16 and been nowhere near the playoff. There’s an incentive to play ND. You’re creating a boogeyman that doesn’t exist.

Could you (or anyone) tell me why Greg Sankey or Jim Phillips would want to “force” ND into the B1G? On the contrary, they’d prefer ND to be independent.
All discussions about ND cause people to lose their rational minds. (I’m giving the benefit of the doubt that these minds were previously rational

Why would a team get bumped in this scenario when they’re probably in too? It would have to be a VERY specific set of circumstances which has a low probability of even occurring.
Let’s be honest, this constant reeeeing about Notre Dame on this issue makes me think this isn’t the issue... Congrats. Notre Dame couldn’t have been whom they were the past century without their fans, but they REALLY couldn’t have been so without their haters

BYU would kill ND and Miami

these guys remember with clarity LSUs best run they'll ever have
Football has changed, irrevocably
Still all of them are going to have to get used to disappointing college football teams
There'll be a big 8 and then every random now and then a random TTech or Clemson-like not Clemson, theyre fricked
I actually look forward to even though I probably won't be around here to see it
but I think there's going to be a minor league level of college football that will become football as we remember LIKE Eric Dickerson days football When you could get a player for a Trans Am
