Hardly conducive actions for fan support.
From '03 to '09 they put out a winning product including WS title and the best attendence year Avg was 22k.Its pretty pathetic for a metro population of 6 million with huge Hispanic influence and a history of great college and local baseball talent.
I'm assuming they also have a pretty horrible local media
deal which is another indicator of bad support.
I'm guessing the new ownership group is going to follow
the Houston model for their rebuilding efforts.

Because both teams are always terrible. It’s really not that hard to figure out.

I lived in Boca at the time I went to those games. Just not enjoyable in the summer.

I used to be on the "Florida has shitty sports fans" bandwagon until I went down to Florida on vacation. Now I think "Why would anybody who lives in Florida ever attend a sporting event?" There's lots of things to do and the weather's always nice. Going to a baseball game would be way down on the list.

All my friends from down here essentially bailed on the marlins after years of shite ownership. These are guys who grew up with the expansion team and are now in their mid-late 30s with young families. They would absolutely be the target demo that have been shite on numerous times by the organization.
ETA: I’m sure many will be back if the new ownership mends some fences.

I'm not one of em.I know the Bucs and Dolphins fans are solid along with Heat fans.

Meh, not buying it.Dodgers and Angels have usually killed it in attendence

I think both teams could succeed, but they have made terrible ownership decisions.
Tampa is locked into a horrible stadium. That place isn't suited for college baseball, let alone MLB. Not only is the facility a dump but it is located 30 mins away from the population center in sleepy St. Pete. Move it across the bay to Tampa and it would be much more successful. Tampa is a huge media market. Tampa can recover if they can get a stadium built near Raymond James or even Ybor.
Miami has had several issues. Joe Robbie was a terrible place for baseball. Constant rain delays and sweltering heat, and horrible viewing angles made it a bad fan experience. Couple that with the fire sales and constant shite ownership, I can see why. Their current stadium is nice and solves the weather issue, but I'm not sure the location is the best. I think they would do better in Broward county IMO. Plus, this ownership group has completely shite on the team and fricked over the taxpayers to get the stadium. I'm not sure Miami can recover.

They averaged 29k in 97 in a horrible stadium. They still had a horrible stadium in 03 and had already been shite on with the first fire sale.
TB is too far from their population base. It'd be like the dodgers having their stadium in Santa Clarita.

What?Santa Clara is a 5 hour drive from LA
Tropicana is right across the bridge.

While both have had some success here and there, both operate like a minor league team always looking to cut costs.

Santa Clarita NOT Santa Clara brah. Come on.

The Rays play in a dome and the Marlins' stadium has a retractable roof.
And they still can't attract fans

Know how I know you’ve never driven through rush hour in Tampa-St Pete?

I’d guess over 70%of south Florida is either not from Florida or a first generation Floridian. There is just no passion for Florida teams.

One of the popular excuses for Marlin fans was that it was hot and so many of their games had lengthy rain delays that they didn't want to commit to going to the games. I called bullshite on that and was proven correct

Never heard of it but looked it up.So are you saying the Rays need a new facility?

Yes, absolutely. And one that is in Tampa and not st pete. I think they can draw 23-25k in a decent spot along with a top 12 media market in the US.
I also think if the Marlins had competent ownership and had built their stadium in broward county that they could do well also

I'd not want to be in those stands in the daytime when they play and it's in the 90's and the humidity is in the 50-70% range. Same with Miami and Tampa.
