Finished 2nd in MVP voting
Regarded as a top 5 player in the world

In two of the final 3 losses he shot 7-19 (38%)and 9-23 (39%). Combined to hit a single 3-pter in the last 3 games.

When Lebron, Westbrook, and Harden have these performances and get ousted prematurely, the critics (and MSB) crucify these guys.

What gives, gents?

The Spurs as a whole are likeable losers.

I don't see how anybody can rationally hate the Spurs.

His mild-mannered temperament is a factor.

Durant noticeably missing from this list as he gets the same passes Kawhi is getting now.

He is considered a lock down defender. He wasn't a scorer when he got into the league just developed his game. He isn't expected to drop 40 a night

It comes down to who people like. Once people make up their minds who they like, interpreting their results becomes an exercise in confirmation bias.

You know Westbrook shot 38/29 percent for the series?

can you imagine the Heat he would be getting had OKC lost the series?

You can't find one negative thing on Kawhi's performance.

I just find it odd a MVP candidate, leading one of the "GOAT teams of all time", can have a pretty bad series and get zero criticism

Doesn't get the endorsements or the same publicity as the others. He's not as visible as they are.

People are more likely to blast what's in their face all the time.

He stunk it up the last 3 games.

There, feel better now?

Because as a team they lost. That's always been their thing.

Enough fingers to point around on that.

To me, this is just a fascinating case study in how fans/media select villains.

When Lebron is in the playoffs, people anxiously await for him to fail or the team to lose.

Same with Harden and Westbrook.

Durant gets off a little bit easier, but the pressure started getting turned up on him in recent years.

And yes, I believe the simple answer is he's quiet and doesn't piss people off
