The media thinks the NFL is a charity. They want Cam to start because they think he deserves it and giving a rookie the reigns is bad optics for a former MVP.

He had a good game, but there is plenty of people who want Mac to start.

Everything sports media now is about race. Are they trying to talk up cam to preserve an African American qb?

I didn't stop the entire media establishment from going wild with allegations about him in college. Or lots of prominent media guys from trashing him coming out of college.

Cam isn't particularly woke, he's not holding himself up as mr. black athlete, so I don't really think it's a racial/political thing.

But pumping him up as a colorful veteran and former MVP either who surges for a comeback or loses out to the new kid as the fan base used to winners gets disgruntled is a storyline, and that's all they really care about here. Set Cam up as a story no matter what happens. Cam losing and getting replaced during the year is a more compelling saga than losing out to MJ in the preseason, especially considering Jones isn't making a terribly compelling argument for the job to date.

Being a former MVP should carry some weight

The decline with Newton has been painfully obvious.
Bill B signed him & the re-signed him & has said Cam is his starting QB? Ask Bill instead why he is so " pro Cam" .

Pull out your chart, plug in his identifiers and you have your answer. Being black gay pro athlete is at the top of the list.

That’s things these days.

if cam falls apart or flops then the kid starts.

Cam is fully healthy this year for the first time in awhile. I think he will have another Superman type of season with New England and lead them to a Super bowl.

You guys are obsessed with skin color. I mean damn.

This. Cam has a history of being an absolute freak athlete. In his first 3 games last year he was 62/91 (68%) for 714 yards, ran 35 times for 149 with 4 rushing touchdowns AND had ZERO weapons. The pats were 2-1 and everybody was saying how stupid it was that they got him so cheaply. He got Covid and didn't look great after.

If people think he that the 10-year vet with an MVP trophy should start it MUST be because he's black? Give me a break... some of you guys talk so much crap about how sensitive people of color are then turn around and are JUST as sensitive. And the worst part is you're soft just for the sake of being soft. Even if I don't agree with some of BLM I can at least understand where they're coming from. But this thread is full of people who are so desperate to try to show how culture is oppressing white people. It's just crying "look at me, I'm oppressed too!!!!" Get real... Or at least take it to the OT so I can ignore it.

Well if you want your big QB controversy story in NE, this is likely it

quote:

Newton's absence comes after he traveled to a Patriots-approved medical appointment that required him to leave the New England region, according to the team's statement.
"He received daily Covid tests, which were all negative. Due to a misunderstanding about tests conducted away from NFL facilities, and as required by the NFL-NFLPA protocols, Cam will be subject to the five-day entry cadence process before returning to the facility," the statement read.

According to NFL-NFLPA protocols, Tier 1 and Tier 2 individuals -- including all players -- are exempt from daily testing and allowed to travel if they have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Newton will continue participating virtually in team activities, but will miss practices Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Wednesday practice is the first of two with the New York Giants in Foxborough, Mass.

Cam had basically sealed the job for week 1… this kind of blows the door wide open for Mac. If he pulls off good performances vs the giants, I imagine BB would go with him just because he doesn’t have the risk of being sideline for this side of thing because he is vaxxed and Cam is not

Lamar Jackson?

Total TD-INT ratio?

91 TD
23 INT

4-1 TD-INT ratio, regular season and playoffs.

That’s bad?

Bump. Curious to hear certain posters thoughts on this now that a bunch of talking heads are saying Mac should start because he is vaccinated and cam isn’t. Which is about the dumbest argument I have ever heard in a position battle

Moving the goalposts, I see.

That’s how you know you’ve lost an argument.
