Why is everyone so pro-Cam Newton? Is this a race thing?

Listened to sports radio earlier tonight. Two stations actually. They were so hardcore in support of Cam Newton bring the undisputed starter. No question about it and nobody could understand a world where anyone even brought up the idea of Mac Jones starting.
The decline with Newton has been painfully obvious. Why the support now after not even a full pre-season?
Everything sports media now is about race. Are they trying to talk up cam to preserve an African American qb?

Race could easily be a narrative, but I think this has more to do with one simple fact.
Good Cam could have Pats in the playoff mix.
Factor that in: it’s easier for a coach to start a vet, play Mac in situations, and maybe late in the season when hope is lost. If you start Mac for the opening game and bench him, you risk fricking up his confidence. The Pats situation allows this. A complete garbage team like Cincy can start Burrow ASAP with no regrets. It’s slightly different in NE.

Before the last 2 games I would have said yes, but I have to admit he looks really good right now.

Cam Newton is one of those athletes that kind of transcends more so than any of the things you are laying out.
He is electric and fun to watch. His best years were wasted on some shitty Carolina teams, but his name is still valuable and in that alone people will clamor for him.

Cam is electric like Darryl Strawberry or something. He’s unique and fun to watch. I’d rather watch him play right now than Andrew Luck in his prime - he’s just got that “it” factor, especially when he’s playing well. nothing to do with race BTW.

Yeah Cam is actually playing well due to the competition from Mac. I expect Mac to surpass him at a certain point though. Cam is still throwing against backups.

Cam Newton is a good dude who suffered some devastating injuries and will never be the player he was. He could have given up and walked away, or just took a high paying back up job. But he is trying to resurrect his career. He went to a floundering team and kept them respectable. Now he is battling a heady rookie with a ton of fan support. People have picked their sides. Like you.
