Why don’t some teams just move down from FBS to FCS?

Why struggle in the FBS when you can just move down and legitimately compete for the FCS championship every year? G5’s are never going to win the CFP.

A few that come to mind who would be interesting to see at the FCS level are: Louisiana-Lafayette, ULM, LA Tech and Arkansas State.

Why not?

The difference in revenue distribution from the conference, ncaa, and media for a bad G5 is miles ahead of a good FCS.

All but the Cajuns were FCS, were very successful and moved up. All but ULM have had periods of success with La Tech and the Cajuns being top 30 programs for an extended period of time.

The revenue from playing FBS vs FCS funds much of the other sports that these schools compete in. Especially in Louisiana where there is a cap on institutional support and barriers for student fees being collected.

ULM would be fricked from a financial standpoint if that happened.

Many FBS schools are struggling to keep non-revenue sports afloat as-is, and football subsidizes most of them. Moving football to FCS would be the death sentence for just about every sport at the school.

It is what it is. I hate that there can’t be room for both FCS and FBS in the pie.

Like imagine a world where Wednesday and Thursday nights were prime time FCS games. Hell I’d even watch a big FCS game on Sundays over the nfl.

There’s gotta be a way they can make this work.

With the new playoff system giving a slot to the highest rated G5 team, which means potential huge revenue sharing for the conference mates of whichever team makes it, why would teams like UL, LA Tech or Arky State, which have won their conferences before, step down?

Cajuns had two season in recent memory finishing in the Top 20. LA Tech and Arkansas State have been close. LA Tech maybe even being in the Top 25-30 within the past 10 years?

You are a very large exception in this regard. Perhaps with some creative TV scheduling mid week FCS games could draw a larger audience but overall it’s never going to be close money wise

UL took full advantage of the Covid seasons. Arkansas State has had a few bowl games.

LA Tech is by far the one that stands out. They’ve had some legit teams over the past 15 years. Big numbers. Trent Taylor years. On the flip they’ve also had some awful teams especially of late.

Just saying it would be cool to see these guys duke it out for an actual championship rather than Nola Bowl appearance

Even if you want to disregard 2020, 2021 was a full-fledged season. Garbage statement.

And the NOLA Bowl appearance gets them more national attention than it would being in the FCS playoffs.

Ah shite here they come..

Sorry bud. I’ll give you the 2021 season but nobody counts the 2020 season. Literally even the NCAA. All of the players who played that season didn’t count it against their eligibility. Fact

I’d rather G5 schools move to a playoff system and disregard the bowls.

Sure let’s do that and start with LSU! Maybe you’ll see how silly this is then.

Why would they do that when they can still make millions from the CFP system? Especially with the new system

The powers that be aren’t going to be giving away that charity GTD playoff spot for long. CFB will continue to contract to the core teams and leaving FCS, non P5, and even some P5 squads out in the cold.
