Seems like every other SEC state has one. Anybody know of any efforts in the past to bring one here?

I couldn’t imagine keeping a racing surface suitable for race cars in Louisiana

There was talk about ten years ago about building a NASCAR track in northern Tangipahoa parish. Don’t know what happened.

Lack of large nearby TV markets.

Best reason I think has to do with climate and culture. Rains too much in summer. NASCAR will lose vs LSU and Saints. They will lose due to Mardi Gras constantly flip flopping between March and February. There would have to be a perfect storm for a NASCAR race to draw like they want.

I don't think Mississippi, Arkansas, or South Carolina have one.
And technically neither does Missouri. Pretty sure KC's track is on the Kansas side.

I thought Darlington was in LA. Close to where they were gonna build the reservoir.

Same reason Louisiana cant get any foreign investment into the state. Pols get too greedy and cant get a deal done.

They can't even keep surfaces suitable for regular cars.

As I recall there was talk about putting a NASCAR track out in New Orleans East near the old Six Flags park.
About 30 years ago, they would turn the streets of New Orleans into a Grand Prix race track. It was downtown on Poydras in the CBD. I remember watching it from my office window one year. I believe it had about a five year run and then just went away.

NASCAR isn’t big in Louisiana. Even in its prime 15-20 years ago.
If you go to Georgia, South and North Carolina and Tennessee, you’ll see more number decals on the backs of vehicles than you’ll ever see in Louisiana.
People say nascar has southern roots, but I would argue that they’re stronger and have always had more of a Southeast stronghold.
