Why does the NBA even bother having a regular season?

So now the playoffs are expanded to 10 teams per conference. What's the point of the regular season?

Not really. If you’re not a division champ (in 5 team divisions) the best you can hope for is a one game wild card playoff. Regular season is pretty important.

There's play in games for the 7-10 seeds now, which isn't the same as what you're describing.
I think it's gonna be pretty interesting to at least see how it all shakes out.

MLB depends on season stats as much as actual championships. The 162 game season is needed judge player values and record books.
