Wisconsin hasn't had baseball for 30 years.

No one cares.

Presence?

They have had 18 National Titles.

Which is #1.

Probably for the same reason the SEC sucks at lacrosse or hockey. I didn't even know the BIG 10 had baseball.
are you saying baseball is a regional sport like every kid in america doesn’t play little league and almost every state in the Big 10 doesn’t have a Major League team?

years ago they were a one bid conference… now they at least get a few teams with some going to Omaha. Michigan damn near won the natty…

I know they play with the ACC now, but ND seems to make it work consistently enough to get to Omaha every now and then.

I started at LSU in 2012 (2013 World Series). Indiana made the 2013 World Series. They were the first Big Ten team to make it since the early 80s. In between trips from Big Ten teams, LSU went to like 16 college World Series and won 6 of them. They had never been before that. All inbetween trips from a single big ten team from like 1982-2013

I went to the 2014 winter classic and walked around their campus. Their baseball stadium looked like a practice field.

Can't have real practices in February. Unless you build an indoor baseball stadium which isn't worth the expense.

Yep, and baseball loses a lot of money at most every school in the country, can't justify the expense.

If SEC invested in lacrosse they could probably become major players.
Lacrosse has always been an east coast sport but a lot of lacrosse is being played down south in youth, high school and club teams.

Maybe if they move the college baseball season back a month it would help. Would be good for the game if the Big 10 was an elite baseball conference.

Big Ten states like Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Penn have had MLB for over a hundred years. In states like Iowa and Indiana they follow pro teams in neighboring states and they have had minor league baseball based in towns for over 100 years. Pro ball in the big ten states is just more popular. In Ann Arbor and Columbus and East Lansing and Champaign-Urbana people care more about the Tigers, Indians, Reds, Cubs and Cardinals more than their college teams.

This. The college game can be a fun diversion. But I like MLB better because I hate aluminum bats, and the quality of baseball is better in the big leagues. Also like that every series and every at-bat doesn’t seem life or death in the bigs.

Their hockey and wrestling is equivalent to our baseball. They consistently have a team in the frozen four and between Iowa Penn state, Minnesota etc have really good wrestling programs. It’s where they invest the other money. In the sec it’s on baseball.

No thanks. I'd rather the Big 10 have to put up with some chilly weather in the early season than for everyone in the south to have to put up with the heat and humidity in the late season. Double headers for regionals would be miserable in late June in a lot of the south.

I played baseball in the Northeast. Practices were in the gym, with an infield set up and everybody learning to bunt with rubber balls. We would setup a field in the student parking lot when possible to work on outfielding, etc., but we had to dodge a few cars that hadn't been moved and dodge light poles and huge snow piles with plowed snow. We'd wear long undies and winter gloves. The rubber balls take a normal bounce coming of the bat, but on the second bounce they generally skip just above ground level, so they can easily get under a glove. We couldn't get on a grass field until March normally, so games were April, May and half of June. School years are normally Sept-June.

The answer is cold weather. They can't play year-round and if they're good enough to get recruited by warm weather schools, they go. It was good to see Evansville, UConn, Long Island, etc. get some exposure this year.

Bogus comparison

They play baseball, but suck

We don’t play lacrosse or hockey

Wait, are you under the impression Ohio doesn’t have good baseball players?

lol

They just go to schools in the ACC or SEC

So much ignorance in this post lol. Crazy too coming from an Iowa alt. Essentially saying an SEC team could start whooping a historic wrestling power like Iowa if they just started putting some attention on the sport.
