Says the guy (a) clearly wrong about who backed out of the fight and (b) doesn't think Wilt would get his arse kicked. ETA: Hell, you made it sound like Ali would lose.

Yeah, I'm the mental midget.

Run a simple Google search. It's all there.

Eh, the context of pace is important when talking about the old guys stats from back in the 60s.

i agree with the rest of your post though, Wilt is a stone cold top 5 lock.

I agree with context of pace based on the scoring era, but he made a massive jump. I need proof before telling me 50/30 --> 30/15. Those are not even close.

If you're 63, that means you were 6 years old when Wilt entered the NBA.

He is in my top 5 because I saw him play complete games, both with the 76ers and Lakers. I was too young to see him play with the Warriors. How can anyone think someone who averaged over 30ppg and 22rpg in his career wasn't a top 5 player? The only other player to average 30ppg is Michael Jordan. The only other player to average over 17rpg is Bill Russell.

The overall athlete thing is the part about Will that sticks out-- he wasn't just tall and strong: in addition to the 800 he was also at pretty highly regarded high jumper (which when you consider how much body he had to get over the pole is crazy) - - I saw a picture of him playing volleyball where he jumped high enough to make the top of the net even with his waist-- so Shaq with like MJs vertical or LeBron but 6 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier.

I posted this in another thread not too long ago:

Let's do another one. How about Wilt Chamberlain in 1961-62?

He averaged 50.4 ppg and 25.7 reb in 48.5 minutes per game... yes, he averaged more minutes than there are in a game.

His team had a pace of 131.1, which was the highest in the league. The highest in the league last year were the Warriors, with a pace of 98.3. So we'll use that pace to compare between eras.

Wilt played the most minutes per game that year, and the player with the most minutes per game last year was Jimmy Butler, who averaged 38.7 minutes per game. So we'll use his minutes to compare.

So if we adjust for pace and minutes using the 2015 drivers, Wilt would average:

30.2 ppg and 15.4 rebounds

Extraordinary stats... but a far cry from the cartoonish stats of 50 points per game and 25 rebounds per game.

Much more realistic to assess him on 30 and 15 when comparing players than 50 and 25.

How many games in how many days? Points per shot? Was he likeable in the media? Did he ever appear to give up on his team? Did he blame coaches for team struggles?

If you are going to adjust stats why not discuss other bits of info that factor into top 5 lists?

It also means he was in college by the time Wilt retired.

Yeah, which means he was just a little kid during most of Wilt's prime, if not all of it.

Combine that with how little the NBA came on TV back then, and I doubt he really saw a lot of Wilt Chamberlain.

You're really trying hard to knight for the modern day player. Sorry that an older generation player was better than some present day player hurts your feelings.

Here's a stat:
There were 20,000 bowlegged women walking around in the 60s and 70s.

This is just untrue.... He said he had slept with 1,000 women... NO WAY..... That's a staggering # if you think about it........
