That city should not even have a team.

Agree 100% which is why the Stanton trade stung so badly. He was a Marlins product. Hopefully the farm system improves the quality of the product

For how shite the Marlins have been, they've always had elite players. Miguel cabrera and Hanley Ramirez were legit top 3 players with the Fish. Hard to believe this team had Giancarlo Stanton, Marcel Ozuna, Dee Gordon, JT Realmuto, Christian Yelich and Jose Fernandez on the same team. Six all stars and couldn't win anything.

They have two world series title in 25ish years. Winning wasn't an issue. Baseball fans follow players. They keep up with stats in minor leagues. Follow the draft. If you just buy the bulk of your team in free agency, it is hard to develop a devoted fanbase. It didnt help that Loria would fire sale every few years, too.

I went to a Marlins game 2 weeks ago. Great fan experience. Team just sucks.

Seriously I think Marlins Park is one of my favorites. Granted I went 3-4 years ago when Jose and Stanton were on the team

Here in Miami? I didn't know they still had a team. Yup, we've got uniforms and everything. -Major League

Garbage team + garbage stadium location + garbage fan support = garbage attendance. Imagine being the poor sap that has to try to sell advertising in the stadium - the most fans that place will see for the next decade was last years all star game.

A lot of this. Have y'all seen where the stadium is located? Google street view it. It's literally on the fringe of Little Havana, not exactly where you'd expect the park to be located. Looks like there's housing projects on the other side of the street. The city of Miami has too many competing activities for people to do outside of attending a midweek baseball game. Beyond that, Miami has a high transient population, not to mention foreign-born citizens. Just a disaster all around.

I'd actually enjoy playing a series there I think, just for the novelty of playing a MLB in an empty ballpark

So much for a stadium making a difference.

Miami is a horrible front running fan base.

It was never going to work, and MLB was stupid and forced it.

Things to do in Miami during the summer outside of Marlins baseball >>>>>>>

This is such a tired fricking excuse. As if 90 percent of Miami residents are at the beach on a random Tuesday night. And as if there isn't anything to do in a city like Chicago or new York York in the summer. They're just a transient fanbase who have other allegiances unless the home team is winning. The end.

Marlins have had lousy owners for years. It’s not that surprising.

Why would anybody watch a last place team playing in the middle of July while in Miami? Miami is such a vibrant city. There has to be a ton of things a person can do instead of supporting a shite franchise that constantly gets rid of their superstar players.

Baseball is not dead it's just regional. It's the same way for college baseball.

On the one hand that is true about college. Top 5 in attendance and 11 of the top 25 are SEC.

But college baseball is not dead because it’s never really been alive.
Look at attendance figures. Last year only the top 6 averaged more than 5K per game.

LSU has led the nation for 22 straight years so its easy to start thinking people care about college baseball. They don’t.

MLB allowed a douche who couldn't afford it to buy the team from another douche who fricked over the city. I think it's great the fans are staying away. And frick Jeter.

Been to Miami. They just don’t care about sports. Maybe soccer.

And frick Jeter.

As a Yankees fan (which is sort of beside the point), I find it fascinating that the perceptions of Jeter and ARod have flipped for both guys in retirement. I like Jeets but he hasn't helped himself one bit since taking over baseball operations for the Marlins.

Jeter was hailed as this consummate professional who was driven to win and adhered to the "play the right way" mentality, and was widely admired by the media.

ARod was reviled as this odd, inauthentic diva who cheated and constantly lied about it, and was loathed by fans.

Inversely, in retirement Jeter's gained a reputation as an aloof, phony baseball exec who doesn't care about winning, attended a Miami Dolphins game instead of the winter meetings and fired several longtime team employees (one of whom was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery), whereas ARod has thrived in a second career as a studio analyst and in-game color commentator and is generally liked by fans.
