re: Why can’t ULM call themselves “Louisiana” too?

Exactly. So these idiots just want to move all the good programs out of ULM and just give them to other schools. Basically, that's the ULL and LaTech folks trying to do to other schools the same thing they think LSU did to them!
Almost zero Cajun fans think of ULM that way. I repeat, nearly zero thinks ULM should be shut down and consolidated into LaTech.
As far as the name goes, that’s on the former NLU administration. If we are being honest ULM is a 100x better than NLU.
On a side note, if there is ever consolidation of universities, ULM and LaTech should fold up shop and Northwestern State should absorb them both.

yes, NW has in my view the 3rd best campus in the state, located in an awesome little town, is centrally located, etc., so just move the ruston schools there and be done with it.
Let ULM stay where it is, but officially become a branch of UL...we could easily manage it from LFT (after all, lsu does the same thing with the Shreveport schools). We would be much better stewards than anyone from ruston would be, and could offer a lot for them in shared post-graduate work, library services, research, etc.

Sorry. I definitely wouldn't want to be confused with them, even though I have a family full of them.

Well now you see…we actually like each other more than you’d like to acknowledge.
Now, about you getting pissed ever time you her ar UL or Louisiana….that’s doesn’t sound very healthy. Try seeing someone about that. Otherwise you’ll just be like ….

Only meteorology program in Louisiana.
Id assume LSU and/or Tulane would have strong meteorology departments

No, that is correct. One has to assume that lsu sees no value in it, or they’d surely take it. And Tulane is a private school, so in a different universe from the public schools.

LSU is clearly the best public institution in the State and one of the best in the country.

According to the people I’ve spoken with, UL should be a Carnegie R1 this next classificatio
The people you've spoken to are retarded. You have to have multiple PHD programs and take in hundreds of millions of dollars in research grants if not billions to be R1

Dude. C'mon. you can't be that blind/stupid. At best lsu is middlin'......in the sec. And that is after getting the lion's share of funds in the state for over a 100 years.
Being ranked 158 in the US puts LSU in a high category. There are close to 4,000 colleges and universities in the US according to the Department of Education. It puts LSU in top 5 percent.

If you can't get a PHD in a subject then you are not a strong department. It's about graduate studies and the research dollars faculty and graduate students bring in. You can have a nice little meteorology program, but if you don't have a graduate program and research funds coming in you are not that special.
Posted on 9/7/21 at 6:40 pm to Ralph_Wiggum
Oh Ralphy baby you are quite special indeed.

UL received $144M in research funding this past fiscal year. The required PHD programs for R1 status is 10. These do not count Law or Medical programs. They must be in STEM programs.
Where UL falls short is the number of PHD graduates annually. We meet the total number, but not diversified enough within the 10 PHD programs offered.
So take your retorted arse out of this thread and go frick yourself.

Compare the number of PhD programs LSU has and compare the research dollars brought in by LSU and compare it to USL. You won't like the answer.

R&D Expenditures - 2017
LSU: $266 million
Tulane: $181 million
UL-L: $101 million
LaTech: $23 million
ULM: $2 million
This has all of the data nice and neat and in one place, although it's 2017. I know our latest R&D number was around $166 million on the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's public reports website.
I kept seeing posts on TD floating around $800 million number, but that doesn't add up unless you include other universities in the LSU System.
Number of PhD programs
LSU: 50
Tulane: 34
UL-L: 11
La-Tech: 6
ULM: 6
I don't dislike the answer.
Was about what I expected.
Edit: LaLadyInTx correction.

2019 total research expenditure for LSU was $157.5MM. ULL was $144.2MM. That's probably not the boom you were hoping for, right?
