Punters and KO guys should be the same person
Unless they have a kickoff guy who does it better than the punter.

If the same guy handled all P and K duties, he'd have no one to keep him company at practice.

The designated long snapper seems like a bigger roster spot waste to me.
Ask the 2008 Pittsburg Steelers if the long snapper is a wasted roster spot. It cost them a game against the Giants when their long snapper got injured and his replacement kept sailing kicks over the punter resulting in a safety and a loss.

I know it's college, not the NFL, but Josh Jasper was pretty good at all 3 aspects of the kicking game.
Just to use an example most people here would recognize.

Dan Pastorini was starting QB and punter for the Oilers in the early 70's

That would remove the advantage of freeing up a roster spot.

If I was a GM of a team, I'd consider it, but I would not want to remotely come close to giving up that accuracy of the kicker.
I'd then have to decide if it was worth an extra DB, or OL for a few yards per punt I could get with a better punter.

My first response was a joke, but back when I'd watch the Saints at training camp, Morten Andersen and Brian Hanson were off in their own little world. I suspect they would have been lonely, if they hadn't had each other for company.
When the Saints drafted Russell Erxlaban(sp?) they expected him to punt and kick. He was so inconsistent at field goals the Saints brought in his holder from UT as a free agent and finally gave up on the experiment. I was just a kid, so I can't cite any specific examples of his kicking woes on Sundays, but I do remember my father bitching about him seven days a week for about five years.
